Can anyone advise of buildings in the financial district that have a lot of families and kids. We looked at places like the beaver house and 20 pine, and the impression is that they cater more towards singles, business types, or couples without kids. thanks
Erktrash, didn't you just sign in bpc? Why pester people?
15 Broad
I havent signed yet. I want to explore all options before I do.
If you are renting, BPC is so much better if you have kids!
Can anyone advise of bars and strip clubs in Manhattan that are child-friendly? Try as I might, I just can't find any that cater to children.
Oh wait .. maybe that's because there are places that are NEVER appropriate for children.
Take the hint.
Have you tried HRP Mamas for more info? I joined when we were thinking of moving to BPC and all members are in your target neighborhoods. I bet they have a wealth of info to share. Good luck.

BPC hands down.
nycmatt. why so bitter?
jas, thank you. i think my wife will really enjoy that.
It's sssoooo BPC and ssssoooo not FIDI
Ekartash -- Matt not just bitter; he's also wrong. What, exactly, is it about the Financial District that makes it so inappropriate for children that it is like taking them to a strip club? Need a lot of work on your analogies, Matt. (The better ones are right behind the holiday tips you never give.)
Re2009, they both suck, for different reasons, but clearly bpc is a more family friendly place. Which erktrash knows, but is too wishywashy to conclude w/o hearing other peoples opinions.
>The better ones are right behind the holiday tips you never give
Really MidtownerVirgin, you out to get out more. Your best insult for NYCMatt is what he does in the month of December?
Jimhones, where in my post did I ask which area is better for kids? I asked for child friendly buildings in financial district.
And I agree that bpc is better. Well maybe just the north part. I don't like the south. Although some of the buildings are nice. But I have read about a lot of families moving to financial district. Nothing wrong with exploring.
The obvious one would be the new Gehry tower on Spruce Street. It should be filled with elementary school age kids.
Trash EXPLORE then, don't ask

You gave up on Visionaire?
10 Liberty has a bunch of families with kids. 150 Nassau for sure, and it's also right next door to the Spruce Street school. I don't know the building quite as well, but 55 Liberty seems like a likely choice. There's a building at the intersection of Fulton and Nassau that's all fairly large units, so it probably qualifies. Possibly 59 John.
A lot of the big buildings in the FiDi aren't super child friendly because they're predominantly studios and 1 BRs; as a result, even the larger units often end up being used as shares. 2 Gold is the best example of this; probably 88 Greenwich as well. Several buildings have completely ridiculous kitchen setups that make them poor choices: 20 Pine, The William Beaver House, District.
ask lucillebluth. she can tell you all about the schools as well....
i like the Visionaire, but it doesnt have any availability . and all things being equal, i prefer the riverhouse and/or liberty green.
thanks jordyn. i will look into these.
there is tons at the visionaire.. what are you looking for?
2 bedroom rental. i dont see any
Have you considered 10 Barclay? 50 Murray has a ton of families.
15 Broad is filled with kids. Trick or treating last Fall had over 100 kiddos running around. Plus the deck, pool and hoops court are great places for bored toddlers.
10 Barclay is a beautiful building, has a fabulous playroom and a pool. Easy walking distance to the park in Tribeca and Whole Foods. However, the immediate neighborhood is full of construction, and the prices seems high for the less than generous size of the apartments. When I toured, the rental agent called the neighborhood Tribeca, which at best is very ambitious marketing.
One last point, the rental agent pointed out that they do not rent to shares, so I wouldn't expect a frat atmosphere. Also, maybe pricing will be a bit more flexible given that the new Spruce St/Gehry building.

almost missed this one! i actually can't tell you anything about schools down there because i only focused on schools uptown. i did live in fidi about 10 years ago, and zeytuna is most certainly NOT an adequate food market their pizza is interesting though. i know of a playgroup at the seaport, how do i know this......let me get back to you with contact info, unless you find it first.
"zeytuna is most certainly NOT an adequate food market their pizza is interesting though. "
Fortunately there's two other grocery stores literally within one block of Zeytuna.
By the way, if the Whole Foods is in TriBeCa, aren't 50 Murray and 10 Barclay, too? I have no idea what to call that neighborhood, but it doesn't really seem like the Financial District (Wikipedia describes the Financial District as south of City Hall Park, which seems roughly correct, but also excludes 150 Nassau and the Gehry Building). I do agree that 10 Barclay seems very nice and family-friendly. 10 Liberty is the same management company but quite a bit cheaper, although not nearly as convenient to TriBeCa.
lucillebluth:"...i actually can't tell you anything about schools down there..." Yes. You have made that abundantly clear.
some like 71 Broadway - the nice thing there is that the kid's playroom is connected via a window to the gym - so mom can go to the gym and put the kids in the play room at the same time
responding to you would constitute trolling a legitimate thread, and the se people don't like that. i see i have a new friend though. that's nice. 2 even! lucille was always popular.
you've got lots of good friends here, lucille. truth, huntersburg, julialg, buyerbuyer, maybe even riversider.
feel free to chime in now, "huntersburg"
ekartash, i don't know the resident composition, but i looked at one of the hanover square buildings years ago. it (or maybe they, i think there might be more than one) too, given the building size and apartment types, might have a family presence. good luck.
