Discussion about
does anybody have an opinion on Little Elves or how much it should cost to have an 1800 sq. ft apartment cleaned post construction (the estimate is 7 hours, 7 people, $3100).

I always hear the same thing about LE - absolutely amazing yet very expensive, so Im not the least surprised about the quote.

I think there are other threads you can search, because I know people have asked this before.

Last summer I did a reno and all the cleaning quotes I got were very high, what we ended up doing was just calling up our regular cleaning service - while technically they weren't a "post renovation cleaning service" we asked them to send X people (one being a man since we knew there would be some heavy lifting literally) for X hours to do XYZ.

That is $63ph per person, or over $120k a year on a full time basis...i am sure some illegals will do it for $20ph and a free lunch

Nyc411, I use the same cleaning people for all my projects and my clients seem to love them. They charge me around $40.00 hr each person. If you would like their info please email me at primerenovations@mac.com

Serious bump here ...

We are about to wrap up a gut reno on a prewar classic 6, about 1500 sq ft. looking for some recommendations on company to use for cleaning post construction and pre move-in. I see here that Little Elves is recommended - any others that get good marks?

Also how much should we expect to pay?

Should not the contractor clean it? After that you need your cleaning lady for double the normal time + an assistant.

300 mercer,

There are some projects were I include a post construction cleaning service but the industry standard is that we leave the apartment in a broom swept condition, To some that is still pretty dusty.

can't you just pay some illegals $300 for three full days of cleaning?

That would be illegal.

Any reputable contractor can clean your apartment. Manhattan pricing for a fully qualified and licensed cleaner is only about 10k

I have commented on Little Elves in past threads, because I have used them 3 times. They are the best there is in NYC, and do a flawless job. Where they shine the most, is when you've had them clean after a minor renovation in an apartment that is occupied and they clean furniture, walls and closet interiors. They get every speck of dust. In an empty, just renovated apartment, they are fantastic too.
Yes, they are very expensive, but you get what you pay for. Period.

"can't you just pay some illegals $300 for three full days of cleaning?"

Of course you can.

You can also pay an illegal $15/hour to babysit your kid every day and call her a "nanny" while she lets your kid run into traffic as she munches on her bucket of Popeye's and yaks on her cell phone.

You can also pay illegals $50/day to construct buildings that are ticking time bombs, waiting to collapse.

You can also pay illegals $35/day to slaughter cattle, (improperly, of course), get shit all over the meat, and trigger E.Coli poisonings in 38 states.

Of course, just because you *can* doesn't mean you SHOULD.

Hiring a nanny or building a structually sound building is different from cleaning an apartment.
Any $10-15 illegals can clean as well as little dwarves or elves.

Matt,
Like I had posted above, please let me know if you need someone to wash your dishes. I charge minimum $1200 and guarantee your dishes to be 100% sterile (I will wash and autoclave it) and spotless.
With your basic reasoning, my service will prevent any possible food poisoning, cross contamination, beauty of its shine, etc.

Enjoy

"If done cost effectively, I support a camera at all public areas. I have nothing to hide."

Not necessarily.

You still get what you pay for.

Check out MyClean.com - there rates are less than half the price of Little Elves and they do an excellent job. The owner Mike is very professional and makes sure that all jobs are well managed.

After reading this blog I called both Little Elves and MyClean for the post-renovation cleaning of my 800 sq. foot 1 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom. Little Elves offered to do the job for $2,500 and MyClean offered to do the job for $500. I decided to go with MyClean based on both price and professionalism; I was able to get Mike right on the phone and he walked me through the entire process. Their cleaning crew showed up on time with all of the required equipment: shoulder vac, high dusting equipment, vacuum, mop and bucket, 3 different cleaning solutions, rags, etc. Tito (the head cleaner) was very professional and diligent. They worked for about 6 hours and the place looked great. I am now going to use them for weekly cleaning.

I had a great experience with a company called Spotless Services to do the clean up after a lengthy and arduous construction project in my 4 story brownstone. I was so frustrated after getting the run around from the contractor and his alleged "cleaning crew" that I just decided to contact an outside company. I was able to speak with someone that was extremely helpful and they stuck to their quote precisely. If I am not mistaken, I paid a little over a thousand dollars for a crew of 6 people for the full day with a ton of supplies. They were great and worth every penny. If I can get my wife to agree I will definitely be using them for regular cleanings

After reading Jagnet's post I decided to give MyClean a call about my 1,100 sq. foot 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom. I spoke to Mike who gave me a quote of $750 for a Deep Post-Construction Clean plus an additional "touch-up" clean a few days later after I moved all of my stuff in. They sent a crew of two cleaners (William and Ramel) who did a great job. They worked all day long and asked me to do a walk through before they left. I tipped them $75 each so the entire clean cost me a little under $1,000. I also asked William about coming back once every two weeks to help maintain the apartment and he told me to call the home office to book. Their rate for bi-weekly cleaning is like $100 so I am definitely going to do this.

I'm trying to get a quote through email with these cleaning companies but won't give me anything unless they see the apt. I have 3000 sq ft on Central Park West. I thought they're supposed to charge the same everywhere ? I didn't think it would depend on the apt. Are there any companies that charge by the job, sq ft, or whatever without having to come and look at the place?? I need post construction cleaning.
