Cedar roof vs architectural singles

you can seal the shingles to keep the darker cedar color. i think it looks better too. you might consider doing cedar shingles on the curb-appeal side of your house only to save some $.

We built a house last year, cedar shingles all around. The shingles were "pre-dipped"-- slight coloration and sealant to delay the discoloration. The roofing is also pressure treated. Power washing is not going to maintain the "tanish" color. Cedar simply ages to a silverish color. If anything, power washing might accelerate the weatherizing of the color, and power washing a roof is not a simple task (a cedar shingled roof typically does not have plywood sheathing underneath). Don't know where the house is, but apart from looks, cedar shingles properly installed are very wind resistant, and can easily last 25+ years.
