Discussion about
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- When the unexpected strikes, most Americans aren't prepared to pay for it. A majority, or 64%, of Americans don't have enough cash on hand to handle a $1,000 emergency expense, according to a survey by the National Foundation for Credit Counseling, or NFCC, released on Wednesday. http://money.cnn.com/2011/08/10/pf/emergency_fund/index.htm?source=patrick.net&iid=HP_LN

This is why it is so politically difficult to cut entitlement and gov't spending programs. Nearly 2/3rds or Americans need them while the top 0.5% make a ton of money "managing" or manipulating them. The healthcare industry is dependent on 9% price inflation, the defense industry has traditionally overcharged or underestimated costs and has milked our country's insistence to constantly be at war (all backed by a country full of "patriots" that don't dare question military spending)....

And yes, the 64% do spend well over $1,000 on luxury items like iPads...
