Discussion about
What is with the ads I see for the employee problems at the Boathouse? http://dumpdean.com/who-are-the-workers Why protect Chrissy Makris who just moved to NYC and is already involved in making trouble? What happened to the days when people tried to make it in NYC by working hard? Chrissy Makris started working at the Boathouse in 2011 as a waitress and cocktail server. She grew up in New York City, and lived in Florida from 2003 to early 2011. Chrissy graduated from Flagler College in Saint Augustine, where she studied journalism. Chrissy hopes to one day write for a newspaper or travel magazine.

Why protect Robin Newland who has been working at this place for less than a year but has experience enough to work at other places throughout the city?

Robin Newland is 46 years old and has been working at the Boathouse for less than a year. She has a lot of experience working as a banquet waitress throughout the city. Robin hopes to be a philanthropist one day but what she is really passionate about is her work as an artist and costume designer. She is a member of a costume design union and understands how beneficial a contract will be for her and her co-workers at the Boathouse.

Why does Francisco Lavayen think that he has been massacred when just a couple weeks ago in Norway there was an actual massacre?

Francisco “Frank” Lavayen has worked as a server in the Central Park Boathouse for two and a half years. He was among the workers fired in the recent massacre. Frank is 27 years old. Frank and his beautiful wife, Ana Maria, are the proud parents of their newborn son, Andres David. Everyone who knows Frank knows him as a hardworking guy with an open heart. If you’ve ever interacted with Frank you know that he is hilarious and can make just about anyone laugh.

Why are we so worried about Jonathan Garcia who has another job, in addition to getting a degree, and therefore has significant mobility?

Jonathan Garcia is 25 years old. He worked as a banquet server at the Boathouse for nearly 3 years. Jonathan is currently studying Computer Engineering and working as an administrator for an Adult School for ESL (English as a Second Language). After getting his degree, Jonathan hopes to work in Computer Engineering. He is very outgoing and very friendly. He is definitely someone you can trust and depend on and also a fun guy to be with.

Or Yasser Nijim who wants to bring his non-citizen wife to the U.S., but feels that the best path is to cause trouble?

Yasser Nijim has worked at the Boathouse for over two years. Everyone at work knows Yasser to be a good guy. He lives with his brother Yessid and family in Queens, where he was raised. Recently married at age 23, Yasser is pursuing a career in Computer Technology. He is currently trying to start a family by bringing his wife from Colombia into the United States.

George Xhumari, 36 years old, was among the former employees who protested.

Mr. Xhumari worked at the Boathouse for two years as a banquet server, but often had to perform duties outside his job description, he said.

"We would have to clean the floors in our tuxedos," Mr. Xhumari said.

bgr....
got a dog in this fight?

If they unionize they make a living wage and begin on the road to amazing benefit packages that will cover them for just about everything through retirement and subsequently death. The costs of these unionized packages can get pretty intense over time so expect to be paying a whole lot more for that vodka gimlet. Needless to say, over time the these extended entitlements will ultimately destroy the boathouse, central park and the city as we know it. Just look at Detroit. It was once a thriving metropolis until the unions got there.

But of course this is an important issue for Scott Stringer.

If they close the Boathouse, and if we still don't have a Tavern on the Green, this is good for New York?
