I live in Lincoln Towers, managing agent is Cooper Square. Any and all interaction I've had with them (one major renovation, and currently selling a studio where we previously lived) has been a complete nightmare. For ex yesterday I asked the CS employee who acts as liason between me and the board re: the closing (which is being held up). Her response was rude beyond belief--she screamed "I can't tell them what to do!" before calling my broker and screaming at her, too. Unbelievable. Then there was my renovation, held up by inexplicable delays until it finally became obvious that the CS person in charge was waiting for kickback. I asked around and everybody--my doorman, a friend in another LS building, even a board member who had done a renovation some years ago--confirmed our suspicions. Such behavior would NEVER be tolerated in commercial real estate management. A real estate lawyer friend says that this is the culture of residential management, i.e. nasty, and, yes, corrupt. Comments? [less]
I guess it all depends on who your liason is. I bought last year in a CS managed building and renovated the apartment. I never had any issues other than a slight delay in getting back the security deposit for the renovations. Everyone I dealt with was responsive and pleasant...
I deal with Cooper Square all the time and find them to be one of the best in terms of renovations. I never had a problem with them and I am talking about many of their buildings
there are at least 5 different brooklyn complexes that reshuffled the boards because they chose CS. this dump makes the buildings take on very expensive unnecessary projects and kicks back to the board. there are thousands of coop/condo owners who refused to pay the assessments and are at the point of litigation all because the boards chose CS. i know a board member who, after hiring CS, was able to move to a much better apartment in a different building eventhough he did not have the means prior to CS to afford it.
sorry primer--but here, for obvious reasons, you should conflict yourself out of discussion
it makes you look sleazy, whether your comments are genuine or not
cooper square is a joke
Wbottom,
How does it make me look sleazy? As a contractor I deal with all the management companies. I have to. Perhaps not in the way you think. Since I am a residential contractor I am hired by the home owner. It is far different then when a management co hires a contractor to do work for common areas or other things needed for the building.
I do not work directly for management co. I have to supply them with my insurance, scope of work and I help my clients with their alteration agreements. My client is the one submitting all the paperwork and gettin plans approved.
I hope that clears it up for you bottom
When I lived in Coop Village on the LES it was managed by CS and I never had any problems at all.
If you had to give a kickback to get anything done, that is disgusting. You should have marched on down to their main office and demanded to speak to someone in charge.
what's clear primer is that, if you said something bad about cooper in a public forum such as this, and if they are as scummy as described by a few here, they would make you ability to work in their buildings very difficult--whereas, if you call them "one of the best", they might well treat you favorably
simple shit
that's why people with a financial stake in what is discussed here, such as you, should be taken with a grain of salt
so when you come on here claiming that cooper is so stand-up it makes you look scummy--best you stay out out such a discussion, as in recuse yourself
