Discussion about
well, I am thisclose to ordering my kitchen cabinets, but I have one nagging doubt: I'm wondering how happy I'll be with one of the few undermounted sinks that will fit into a 24" sink cabinet (the sink I found that will fit is 18.5" long by 18" wide.) I'll have a d/w, but will still be doing lots of hand washing. The guy at Home Depot told me that 27"wide sink cabinets are more "standard" and... [more]

I do a lot of hand washing, too, & I'm thinking you won't miss 3" of counter space but will be cussing that tiny sink on a regular basis. Unless you can find someone who has that little sink & can try it, you might just have to go back to HD & try pantomiming the washing of dishes. Oy vey!

I just bought a GE 24" dishwasher. It has a 24" sink on top of the dishwasher (sold separately). The only sacrifice is that the sink is not as deep as a normal sink because it has the dishwasher underneith. But if you were planning on doing a dishwasher next to the sink, you will save space that way and have an extra cabinet and counter where you were going to put the dishwasher.

Here it is in white but I bought it in stainless: http://products.geappliances.com/ApplProducts/Dispatcher?REQUEST=SPECPAGE&SKU=GSM2100GCC&SITEID=GEA

You might want to reconsider the undermount sink. Their big selling point is that you can just sweep stuff from the counter into the sink, but in fact there's always a little bit of shelf from the sink rim sticking out beneath the countertop. Properly caulked, the edge of a drop-in shouldn't be hard to keep clean.

I have http://www.swanstone.com/products/kitchenSinks/qzsb2522/index.php in black. Its drain position and bump-out maximize usability for both the sink and the undersink storage. It can also be undermounted, but I'm not sure about the required sink cabinet.

Have found two sinks by Kindred that will fit in a 24" cabinet that should work - the interior bowl dimensions of one is 15.5 front to back and 19.5" left to right, 7" deep. The other is 15" front to back, 17" left to right and 9" deep. I intend to have a spray with my new sink, so that should help compensate for the smaller size. Will call the dealer tomorrow and double check that either one will work. Then I can order my cabinets!!!
