Soutine - ask them when it comes out of the oven. 70th & Columbus. Or Levain.

This has significantly deeper meaning than visiting Fairway, Soutine or Levain.

What a good wife
If I asked the wife for the same I'd get 20 minutes on how I need more carbs like I need a hole in the head.
Then she would send me to H&H for some fresh bagels.
When I got back and announced that they closed their shop she would say, "I know, how did you enjoy the exercise"?

I second Silver Moon. You could also ask any of the bakeries we've listed to sell you dough, so that you can bake it at home and have that nice smell in your own place.

update: Soutine bakes in the morning, usually around 5am so bread may not be warm by 8am (weekdays) or 9am (weekends). The woman did say that the "night baker" sometimes sells to customers who stop by after hours (huh ?!). they do bake fresh challah throughout the day on Fridays.

Haven't checked with Levain yet.

Silver Moon is up north, right (100's)?

good idea front porch. we've toyed with the idea of baking at home, but i hate cleaning the mixer. purchasing dough would solve that, but i'm certain it wouldn't be as good.

falco - funny. H&H is the example hubby gave for how he wants his bread. I was also informed that it should not be whole grain. *shrug*

You could always get a bread machine--easy as pie!

Whole foods has semi-baked bread in the freezer, decent quality, fresh taste & hot from your oven.
