sealed? I would walk into a good hardware store, or maybe call RG, and ask the guys there if they will do it or recommend someone to do it, or sell you a sealer so your handyman can do it.

Once it's sealed, you need to put coasters down under wine bottles and olive oil bottles, and wipe up spills quickly, and it should last for a long time.

Rg is more of a fabricator then someone I would call to seal it. Email me at primerenovations@mac.com and I will give you someone.

how long does the "sealing" chemical process take once installed..

ie once sealed, how long does one have to be supppper careful about now spilling stuff?

i mean its important never to spill, but i read that if you spill specifically just after the sealing vs 1 year later, it's much tougher to get the stain out, is this correct? thanks

It depends on what kind of countertop you have as they differ, some are more porous than others. If you have a marble countertop then I would think about sealing it once every 8 months or so. You should always be careful not to spill

Hi there,

Ali anad Primer are right to be careful and I am relieved that it is not as hard as I first imagined it would be looking after white marble.

I understand your concern, before I got my calacutta gold white truck delivery for my apt renovation....we are talking counters, backslashes, bathrooms, bottom of the window sills and radiators covers......(after all I am half Italian:) . I tested it, i.e. how long could it handle the common stain on it i.e. red wine, olive oil and wine, it was fine overnight once it had been "sealed"

Also mine was honed marble which is more porous than regular polished marble.

If you are concerned about them charging an arm and a leg, it is so easy to do yourself. I have used 2 different products, one by "dupont" and the one I have attached below, so you can see how easy the instructions are. I usually do the process 2-3 times not just once. I get the product at Gracious Home, however it is probably not hard to find. Just make sure you get the one that corresponds to your counter, i.e. granite for granite, or "stone sealer marble life " for marble.

The only time I would get a guy out to seal is if there was a chip in the counter and or stain that "oxy clean" couldn't get out, then I would get them to bring there machine and sand/polish it away. Maybe you need this after 6 years of use, without sealing.

I believe it takes 72 hours to set.

I agree with Gabrielle,

You should be able to do it yourself but if you do have any stains this time the guy who would be sealing it can also clean your marble first

thanks for that link gab...

"Statuario Stone" coutnertop per developer..

which is weird as my understanding Staturatio was always a white Italian MARBLE, not STONE.. and it looks like white Italian marble (with grey splices)..

would hate to purchase the wrong sealer...

primer, i have a light red wine stain.. it sounds like if i don't take care of that stain prior to sealing, the sealer would just make that stain near permanent? thanks

Hol,

Correct. You can find someone who can take the stone out and then seal it.
