I would believe that you had it under control if you were going to pay the rent yourself!. How about the Brooklyner honey?

Since her mom is looking for her graduate student daughter! I think Brooklyn Heights is the way to go.

I live in BK and go to NYU. I used to live in Avalon -- access to Jay St A,C,F or Dekalb B. I also recommend the Brooklyner, which is even closer to A,C,F. I believe there was some NYU sponsored rentals at 70 or 75 Livingston... Not sure if they still exist.

Listen kid... How is mom embarrassing you? She's trying to help and the board is anonymous anyway. We dont know you. Dont be a spoiled brat.

Williamsburg and Greenpoint are near the L which would take your daughter directly to NYU in a few stops. But Billyburg is pricey with average rent for studio around $2,300. However, in Greenpoint, Billyburg's less expensive neighbor, it's roughly $1873. Of course, she wouldn't have direct access to the L. She'd have to take the G to the L or if she's close enough, just walk to the L.

Maybe this will help:

Also, check out Nabewise for info on various Brooklyn hoods at http://nabewise.com/.

In order of proximity and convenience:

1. Brooklyn Heights
2. Fort Greene-Clinton Hill (the geographic and safe parts)

3. stay out of Williamsburg and Greenpoint if your daughter is not street-wise
and wants to avoid being raped or worse

She can get a studio right near the university for that price.

It depends on where your daughter will be working and where she plans to "hang out". I live in Williamsburg. My office is on 42nd and Madison - it takes 28 minutes door to door. If your daughter enjoys the Village, visits Union Square, or would like to shop in the Meatpacking District , it will take 5-10 minutes on the L from North Williamsburg.. That convenience does not exist from Brooklyn Heights or Clinton Hill.

Williamsburg and Greenpoint are much safer than many parts of New York City. rb345's statement is absurd.

Billy:

Clinton Hill and Fort Greene seem to me to be much safer than
parts of Williamsburg and Greenpoint.

Young non-native women are very vulnerable to street crime/

lindac1104,

According to what you asked for, Williamsburg would be a great fit for your daughter. The price range and commute fits your budget and her time parameters for attending NYU.

bjw2103, I'm telling you now: stick to the the question at hand and set aside your personal gripe. You are not offering anything substantial to this thread.

Thank you and stay classy!
