Discussion about
Anyone know the NYC regulations on installing a gas line, heater/heat lamp, and natural gas grill on a (large) terrace (not a balcony)? or the best way to find out? thanks!

I had the same question. Grill via natural gas line (or charcoal & electric) are allowed. But you need it to be 10 feet away from anything that burns (building, wood benches, etc). And you need a water spigot and hose or a fire extinguisher.

Not sure about heat lamp.

In any case, not allowed on a balcony (unless it is more than 10 feet wide).

I had 30x30 terrace and the bldg did not allow it. People did it anyway, but most buidlings won't let you do it even if legal.

...the main reason being you cannot legally carry propane tanks through residences, no matter the size of the terrace for one thing. So unless you can helicopter it in...

I DO know if you have natural gas pipes in your home (for the kitchen) you CAN legally hook those up to an outdoor grill. But tanks, no.

Jason - you just stick the tank in a suitcase. Works well.

Re: heat lamp. Better check out the winds on the terrace. On higher floors, even large trees in huge planters can go over. Don't think a heat lamp would stand a chance of survival.
