Discussion about
Hi all, I could really use some advice and am totally conflicted here. In short, here's my question: I'm looking for the ultimate bachelor pad. The only stipulation that I have is that it must have central air. With a budget of 2.2-2.5Million, where would you live/why? Keeping in mind, I'm young, into the modern vibe, and want to feel comfortable coming home too. Thanks.

Agents can't sell to you based on your marital status (Fair Housing restrictions).

But if C/A/C is important to you, one feature that may represent "ultimate" is zoned controls, for example a loft where the temperature in the main entertaining space can be lowered to accomodate partygoers without freezing the bedrooms.

Using that as a filter, your agent -- and I'm happy to help if you don't have one -- can pick out specific buildings that might suit your taste.

Define "ultimate bachelor pad".

Seriously -- what the hell does that mean?

Are you currently in NYC? What neighborhoods are you attracted to? What features are you looking for beyond temperature of the air inside? What amenities in the building? How much space? Can you prioritize location, view, light, space, condition of apartment (are you willing to do any work in terms of updating/renovation), amenities of building, etc. What type of building are you looking for/qualified for (coop, condo, etc)?

Your question is so broad as to be virtually impossible to answer constructively.

Got to think both structure and sound absorbtion. A cool shagadellic dude like you is going to want as king sized water bed, prehaps some outside space for a hot tub and a high enough ceiling for the instillation of a pole for dancing. Your going to need a high floor for the rich guy views yet no neighbors to complain about the endless noise form the cavelcade of partiers. A guy like you needs a wet bar and a bilt in sound system that kicks ass not to mention hugh flat screen TVs everywhere. Considering the volume operation you will be running in the bedroom I would reccomend teracota floors for there ease of care and their resistance to high traffic flow. I think it would be a good idea to be located very near a clinic that treats STDs. Central air is a good idea. Which modern vibe would that be, and how far into it have you progressed?

Thanks to those that have posted constructive commentary. My apologies for not being more specific, I'm very new to this. In looking thus far, I really love the vibe of SoHo and the northern parts of TriBeCa. I'm not a big partier, so noise isn't an issue, but I very much like the feel of the duplex, glass, modern spaces (for instance the example on Laight St. posted above).

Again, I apologize for being so vague, but I was just curious to see where people would live, given my set of constraints. I've seen everything on the market in SoHo, and I've been very disappointed in the lack of modern amenities. I know some people like the charm of old, traditional, etc. Not me.

Given no monetary constraints, I'd love to live at 40 Mercer. The building has everything I want, and the units are gorgeous. In that those units are way too expensive, is there anything similar available/where would you recommend I look?

Thanks for the help. It's most appreciated.
