So I decided on doing a fairly difficult job of refinishing the doors only on a unit I recently purchased for use as a rental. Decided I wanted to do something fairly different...painting or antiquing them to a black shade or something similar. I plan on keeping the cabinet boxes as they are (Cherry/Mahogany reddish color) and the interiors are in perfect condition, the only changes I want are on the doors themselves. Any ideas on which product to use? I have to go with Paint as when I was sanding, I went too deep sanding away the veneer and was left with different types of wood as their base doors. There are up to 4 kinds of wood per door when I was expecting the same wood to be used in all doors so I could have used an ebony stain. If I stain as they are now, it would look so goofy as each different part of the door would be a different color as stain will make them all different on the differing wood types....Oak, Pine, Cherry, ect. Anyone have any ideas on which paint to use to get the desired results? I want a matte finish sort of dull paint and primer as I have an open kitchen and my DR furniture is all black with inlaid pieces combined with Mahogany or Oak pieces combined. EX: a buffet with black doors and with Mahogany top and door surrounds. Ideas? Thanks in advance!!! [less]
How about getting someone to reface the cabinets?
Buca,
We refaced a kitchen not that long ago, I think its better than painting

Primer,
Is refacing better in quality or in price? How is it compared to professional painting of cabinets (off site)?
New_to_nyc,
Tough call. I think that is a personal preference. I you took old cabinets and the were painted by a very good professional I would think that they would look very good but there is also something to be said about something new.
Refacing is cheaper then getting a whole new kitchen but it is not cheap.
