Discussion about
I really don't need to hire a decorator - but rather a specialist in color consultation - need help picking shades of paint colors for apartment (rooms open into other rooms and neutral colors vary hugely!!) Does anyone know a "color consultant" for paint that I could contact?

Why does any self-respecting male let everyone know the brand of glasses he wears?
And if you are so "fashion forward", why the same sunglasses for 4 whole years... aren't you afraid that Oliver People's are "so 2008"?
And also, what kind of self-respecting American is named "Oliver"?

My name is Oliver and I have crooked teeth and translucent skin, but my sunglasses protect my eyes from the bright London sunlight.

if you are planning on buying any furniture, some stores will provide the color consulting.

you miss the point but that is because you are stupid. it isn't about being "fashion forward" it is about being tasteful, and timeless. i could have worn my sunglasses 50 years ago, and probaby 50 years from now. and who gives a shit about the name oliver being american or not?

You could also consider hiring a decorator on an hourly basis (some will do that) for this.

So you can only afford 1 pair of sunglasses every 50 years? Wasn't the whole point of you telling us about your glasses to show how much money you made?

I got a free color consultation from Paul Mutimear at Janovic on Lexington. (See article: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/13/nyregion/13experience.html?emc=eta1.) He figured out exactly what we wanted when we were clueless.

People at Janovic can help but it is very different then someone coming to your home looking to see what kind of lighting and furniture you have

nancizim, the first thing you need to consider is whether you prefer cool colors (blues, greys, greyish browns ("mochas"), black, minty greens, purple, lavender, etc.) with "cool" trims (chrome, nickel, or just about anything in the silver family), or warm colors (golds, reds, orange, reddish browns ("chocolate"), earthy greens, etc.) with "warm" trims (bronze, copper, brass, etc.).

The "neutrals" will then follow suit. White, for instance; if you're a "cool" person, you'll prefer a greyish "china" or "bone" white, rather than a warmer Navajo or vanilla creme white.

Sand and khaki are "cool" neutrals that pair beautifully with dark blue, but look "off" with warm colors like orange. If you tend towards the warm colors, you would do better with, say, peanut butter, which has just enough yellow in it to complement the reds, oranges, and earthy greens.

Target -- LOL!

I'm a "warm" person. My living room walls are painted Benjamin Moore Bryant Gold, with white trim and white ceilings. With ivory colored sheers (that's it -- just sheers -- no heavy draperies), when the afternoon sun filters through on the gold walls, the room is bathed in this amazing golden light.

report abuse As far as Brooklyn, it's still on my list but I have to resolve some other things first. Jim, not that I'm not flattered by your concern and devotion to the particulars of my life, but i have to put it out there that mrs. Hones cannot possibly be comfortable with it. Maybe less time following me around the Internet? Btw, Project Isolation is underway. Let me know when you start to notice something. Bye bye Jim.

by the way, lucille, i still dont know notice anything. has project isolation started?

Hi nancizim, contact Sarah at sarah@sarahminteriors.com, she ll spend an hour with you, it will cost you almost nothing and you will get good advice. I consulted her for the same kind of "issue" (floor color in bathroom, kitchen, etc.) just a couple of weeks ago. Good luck!
