Discussion about
I am looking for a two bedroom that is not brutally expansive in the following areas: Chelsea, Union Square Gramercy-Village. Do they exist? All I have seen is frat houses, I am a single parent.

The price premium for a second bedroom, both with renting and owning, tends to be astronomical.

Could you look for a one bed with a large living area and put up either a temporary wall or a screen to convert part of the living room to a bedroom? I know of a few single parents who live in one beds with two children. The children sleep in the bedroom, and the parent sleeps in the living room.

why dont you want something expansive? Most people want big apartments.

LOL - because the "expansive" apartments are usually "expensive"

Concentrate on Gramercy, basically along the 3rd avenue area in the upper teens and low 20s.

what about a junior 4? if the layout and plumbing a right, you could even cut into the kitchen to make yourself a little bathroom with a shower, or at least a powder room. kitchens are over rated.

Why does the OP need to live in those areas? Single parent ... there are many more sensible areas of town.

The people who took over my lease on my last rental turned the dining area into a bedroom by putting up a wall. It was just barely big enough, it was a 1 bedroom apartment probably around 850 sq. feet.

The price to rent or buy an apartment with 2 bedrooms goes up significantly from a 1 bedroom. And to add a bathroom is ridiculous as well.

"Why does the OP need to live in those areas?"

*SINGLE* parent.

Duh.

Hook-up potential is greatest in these neighborhoods.
