No, this Emory Roth building is still a rental, catering to many NYU student, from what I understand.

All I can add is that I see the north side of this building from my place and the upper floor apts on the north/east end of the building have incredible 2 or 3 story high walls of windows. Views must be awesome.

I'm sure the views are nice but unless you go to NYU or dont mind living in a building with a majority of students, I'd avoid it.

I lived there about 8 years ago. I loved it and it wasn't student-y. Actually, it was rent stabilized and there were a good number of older tenants. There were some people that were NYU affiliated but they were grad students rather than undergrads. I personally loved the neighborhood - but did sometimes feel like I was going to NYU - you are very aware of things like graduation.

I live here now but warn anyone and everyone to SAY AWAY from this building! We are moving because the managment has been horrible. There is constant construction, lots of noise, the doormen don't do anything (except play on thier cellphones), and the lease manager is one of the most unpleasant people on this planet. There are tons of noisy students and though the views are nice, the hallways are old and falling apart- we are looking to move out now.

I second hhh144's comments. I lived there about 4 years ago for 3 months. We never even unpacked our boxes. The common areas were dirty (as was the apartment which was never properly cleaned prior to our move in) and the halls were incredibly noisy with NYU students. Furthermore, Lleaving the building when classes at NYU were changing was like playing a real life game of Frogger. It was horrible.

I've lived in this building for 9 years and don't feel like it is an NYU building at all. The residents are a mix of students, families, pied-a-terres, and older people. I agree that the management company is a pain in the neck and the doormen don't do too much (although the day-time guys are wonderful, it is just the night guys that slack off.) Still, I've never had problems with noise (other than that coming through the ancient windows) or feeling like there were lots of NYU students around. Any students that live there are most likely graduate students anyway. Finally, they just re-did all the hallways and elevators with new carpet, light fixtures and paint. I'm looking to move on, but overall, I love this building.

Does anyone know what brokers this building uses? Are they exclusive?

Look at the building lobby. If there's a doorman, ask him. If not there should be a managment company plaque and you can inquire through them.

also, no comment on people's opinion policy, but Sandy has a strict no students policy at 1 University. So the people who said it was full of students do not know what they are talking about. Also, he is great to work with and he does cobroke so you can bring your own broker in.

I do believe having a "no student policy" is discriminatory.
The exclusive broker may be in violation of the Federal Fair Housing Act.
Any attorneys out there can confirm this?
Thanks.

I have such fond memories of the building. Sad to see some of the recent news. I lived here thru most of my nyu student years wayyy back in the late 60's early 70's. Had a groovy studio with window overlooking the Weinstein courtyard for under $200 a month. Hah! My bf and I were the only students in the building . gotta love the location. the hallways were in need of reno back then so im glad it was finally done. I think that tubby doorman is the same guy:)
