Discussion about
Hi Streeteasiers: We have a young client/associate coming in from Europe who will require a two bedroom Manhattan rental. We would like to find him a place starting hopefully 1 June through the end of the calendar year. Because it's 'short term' (less than a year) and will be paid by the company, I'm thinking that a corporate type rental will be preferable/ideal as opposed to subletting a co-op/condo. Any input as to what Manhattan real estate rental companies might specialize in this type of situation would be most appreciated.

matsonjones,

This is my first time providing a recommendation for a broker (because previously I have had largely negative experiences or I have taken care of my real estate needs as a DIY person) but I have had such an incredible experience with my broker in the purchase of my new Williamsburg condo that I have to provide his name. Matthew Hars of Manhattan-Spaces does a lot of rentals in Manhattan and he provides SUPERIOR service tailored to the individual client. I feel like I have been given cadillac services in buying real estate (before this, I preferred to take care of sales, purchases and rentals for myself). Matthew has convinced me of the difference in having a knowledgeable, professional and "caring" broker who does everything under his power to find the right place and make the deal work for you as the client.

Matthew knows the Manhattan market very well and he has been successfully renting homes in Manhattan for a good number of years.
I recommend him highly! Contact him, talk to him and see what you think!

Be prepared for some sticker shock: There's almost no way to do this inexpensively. The two biggest players in furnished rentals are Furnished Quarters and Oakwood, and their prices are fairly high.

We (and most other agents) will do this as well, but then you have to choose whether you want a furnished or unfurnished apartment. From the relo-tenant POV, it's hard to rent unfurnished apartments b/c then you have to buy or rent furniture, and the companies that do that generally don't supply electronics, and so then you have to buy a TV, stereo, whatever on top of that.

There are also investor/owners who rent their places (generally condos) furnished, but often they don't refresh the furniture as often as would meet a rising young executive's taste, and of course brokers will charge you a fee to make the deal. New condo buildings (like the Orion) with decent-looking furniture tend to cost $$$.

Take a look at the two firms I mentioned, and if you're stuck, write me and I'll be happy to help.

rlr689 and JButton - thank you for your recommendation(s)!

Dear Ali: I been so impressed with your posts here over the years, I think I shall in this case defer to your expertise and reach out to both Furnished Quarters and Oakwood first. We will require a fully furnished place. I am aware of the price point, but as it's all business, it is write off.

MJ, thanks for the compliment!

I love doing relos so I'd be thrilled to do it, but as JB notes, Furnished Quarters might be more plug 'n'play.
