the last part of your question is the crux to the quote. labor and materials only is $1000+. do you also need electrical work, paint the new walls and room to match etc.

I think when all is said and done it will be much more then $1,000.00. If you need a permit you will need an architect and Expeditor. That is not cheap. What is the wall made out of that you are going to demo? If its anything but sheetrock that alone could cost 500 with rubbish removal. I am sure there will also be floor repairs. As far as the new wall, you have to have outlets put in as it is code. You also need base molding to match existing.

It is about the amount of feet between outlets. If the new wall is 14 feet you need outlets

We put up a pressurized wall to create a nursery in our Jr4 and it cost about 1,500. Unless you're planning on staying for a long time, I would recommend that route. Most companies include the cost of taking it down in the price so if a future buyer wanted to open it back up you could offer that option.
