Discussion about
what can I expect to pay to erect a new wall about 14 feet long with a bedroom-style door and the demolition of a non-weight bearing 10 foot wall (including anything needing for nyc permits)? thanks!

shans44,

the last part of your question is the crux to the quote. labor and materials only is $1000+. do you also need electrical work, paint the new walls and room to match etc.

e-mail me if you would like a meeting. stephen@capitalcraftsmen.com

I think when all is said and done it will be much more then $1,000.00. If you need a permit you will need an architect and Expeditor. That is not cheap. What is the wall made out of that you are going to demo? If its anything but sheetrock that alone could cost 500 with rubbish removal. I am sure there will also be floor repairs. As far as the new wall, you have to have outlets put in as it is code. You also need base molding to match existing.

Primer, I am converting a junior 4 dining area into my baby's room. Why is the outlet in a new wall part of code?

It is about the amount of feet between outlets. If the new wall is 14 feet you need outlets

We put up a pressurized wall to create a nursery in our Jr4 and it cost about 1,500. Unless you're planning on staying for a long time, I would recommend that route. Most companies include the cost of taking it down in the price so if a future buyer wanted to open it back up you could offer that option.

an alternative would be sliding panel doors or a screen

dylan who'd you use to put up your wall? I had a 10ft high x 14 ft long wall put up and it wasn't nearly as expensive - $1150. I started up a blog about the industry ironically for a class at NYU feel free to check it out http://pressurizedwallsguide.blogspot.com
