Discussion about
Does anyone have an idea how much it would cost to install engineered wood (5/8" thick, 6 ft length, 7.5" wide) per square foot, glued down onto MVP over mastic/concrete? Also, is it a difficult task - i.e. would I need to use a special wood installer or would a GC be able to find the right sub to do it? Many thanks.

Gut Reno,

It should cost you around $3-$4 a sq ft. that doesn't include the wood or moldings. You can use a floor installer but I do not love the work they do with the new moldings.

I am having Armstrong Performance Plus engineered hickory installed in my house right now (as in, today and tomorrow!). Major gut remodeling is in the final stages (6 weeks of mess almost over).

Please note you must, must have an underlayment. That's what they call it, and this was not clear to me until late in the game. I bought my underlayment via Amazon.com.

Google it, you'll find that without underlayment you will hear hollow sounds when people walk on the floor that sound peculiar and unnatural. With underlayment you have a floor that sounds like a strip wood floor acoustically.

This installation is considered a great do-it-yourself project, so no, it is not tricky at all. You would install it as a floating floor over underlayment. BTW the underlayment is also a moisture vapor barrier and an insulator against cold.

$3 - $4 seems right, call or email Carlos Wood Floors - I've used them several times for a couple of investment properties I have in Brooklyn and Manhattan. They are wood floor specialist, highly recommend them. You can email them at carloswoodfloors@gmail.com or call them directly at 646-418-0925.
