Discussion about
I am buying an apartment that is not equipped with any in-wall wiring for data (e.g., networking, cable TV). Rather than tearing up the walls to accomplish such an installation, I am interested in finding someone who can run both networking (CAT-6) and cable TV (RG-6) wiring behind the baseboards within the apartment and then install a central termination box in one of the closets. Does anyone have a sense for how much this job should cost? Also, any recommendations would be very much appreciated.
You're looking at minimum $1200 for the installation.
Materials:
(1) box of CAT6 data cable = approx. $200
(1) box of RG6 coaxial cable = approx. $150
(?) CAT6 connectors + faceplates + (?)12-port patching block = $100+
(?) F-connectors/head-ends + faceplates = approx. $50
The price for materials can get really low if you use cheap stuff.
Labor:
Assume (2) guys working (8) hours, $50/hr = approx. $800
The 5th Ace,
You might be better off finding a contractor to remove the baseboards, run all the wire and then have an audio video guy come in and make all the terminations. I think you will find that less expensive. It is difficult to say how much it would cost without knowing more info, like how long are the runs? How big is your apartment?
Primer,
Thanks for your response. The apartment is about 1,050 sq. ft. My very rough estimate is that the job would require no more than 200 feet of cable. At this point, I'm just trying to get a ballpark sense for the potential scope of the expense before I decide how to move forward.
Shinji,
Thank you very much for the ballpark estimate. Is there someone whom you recommend for the job?
