Fabulous area--I'd buy there in a heartbeat if I had the $$$. Convenient to pretty much everything one could need.

Very good area. I've lived in several buildings in the vicinity from the late 1990's until this day and I can tell you that the area is safe, vibrant with lots to do. Transportation is great with the 96 st subway station or the 102 st station if that happens to be easier for you. I think WEA from the 80s thru 100s has some of the nicest and continuously uniform housing stock in the city. Good luck with your purchase.

Love the feel of that area, has some great buildings. Close to riverside...riverside is very pretty around there.

The park up there is beautiful

Getting a little "Park Slope-y" as more people move in, but still quite lovely. Supposedly someday the Metro is going to turn into a fancy, boutique, no cellphones movie theater. There have been some burglaries lower down on WEA, but overall the area is quite safe.

We lived in a rental in the area for several years and really loved it. You have the amenities of B'way nearby but WEA itself is nice and quiet. Then of course the park is right there. WEA is really a gorgeous avenue. We loved it so much we considered purchasing on WEA but wound up on RSD instead.

Nice area especially around Riverside Park. A great deal of charm and timeless beauty.

Plenty of sro housing and drug addicts. Nice area if you don't have kids and can handle yourself. Just ask the precinct house

I thought the Metro was going to be turned into a discount linens 'n' things type of store. Didn't somebody buy it for that purpose? All the theater seats were ripped out long ago. The NYTimes wrote about it.

GG, gossip I hear is that it's a cinema again as soon as some permitting issues are resolved.

RSD is wonderful, until you have to walk to bway for anything, ok, i'm spoiled having been down at the narrowest part of the Island, So who delivers, here, after 8Pm. gotham closes down. who else delivers food/ and or liquor after 8PM. what a world of difference, 81st to 94th. bway is miles away, LOL. need to familiarize myself with fresh direct. what is this SOAP thing, and what happened to Peapod. NEVER EVER used any of them, no need down in the Zabar's area.. did the westside market every open at 97. did Zen Palate ever really open at bway and 105? what is open late, and what delivers late in the 96th st. plus.minus area. ????? anyone???? about a week here, and everything is so far, and who delivers?

I think if you move here you'll find the neighborhood ("Bloomingdale" from 96-110 west of Broadway) is beautiful, quiet and safe. I bought up here about 1-1/2 years ago after living on WEA in low 90s (which is also a great area.) Light car traffic; easy parking; Riverside Park is really nice up here; the neighborhood is likely going to be landmarked in the next few months. WEA and RSD and the side streets in between are as nice as any part of the UWS in my opinion, almost entirely pre-war buildings. People may be a little more laid-back here. I'm several blocks north of you, on RSD, but I have found that within 3 blocks of my apartment is a great bakery (Silver Moon), bagel store, 2 green grocers, good wine store, bank, jazz club, music venue, music school with free concerts, pottery studio and of course the Park. (Sorry, an unabashed plug for my new neighborhood!) So to try to be balanced: restaurant pickings are very slim, no interesting stores, and it's really windy and cold in the winter.

Metro is supposed to become Alamo Drafthouse. Not really gossip at this point, been all over the papers.

Absolute Bagel- fantastic bagel shop on Bway and 108
Indus Valley- great indian food on bway and 102(i think). There Chana Saag should not be missed.
Thai Market- Best thai in the hood on 107 and Amsterdam
Sal and Carmines- Absolutely doesnt deliver. Arguably the best slice in Manhattan north of 14th st. Bway and 101
Bombay Frankie- Amsterdam and 109th. Really tasty "frankies" which are like rotis.
