$2K for material (ncluding a Toto toilet)

5k? really? It all depends on your per sft for materials. Mid range could be

- $1k for tiling, a bit more if you add mosaic inlays
- a few hundred for the floor tile in shower (we paid $1450 in total or so)
- $650 for floor tile..was $7 per 12x12 of carrera marble tumble finish (keep in mind you need an extr 5-10sft as they will cut to fit your bathroom and some tiles may have slightly diff color/shade if you go natural stone
- $700 for rain shower + separate shower head + diverter valve, sink faucets, towel bars, new bathroom holder, med cabinet, lighting, etc
- $250 for American Standard Toilet
- $725 for a deep porcelain farmhouse sink, you can get for less but I wouldnt go to cheap ones with particle board backing
- All Labor + shower pan + frameless glass and install, and materials they needed to install everything was $6,500

However, my bathroom reno was in a house (not a manhattan apt) that had unexpected plumbing/electrical problems/, so easily knock off $1,500-$1,800

All in I was like 10k-11k, but take off 1.5k if you have no major extra plumbing/electrical work needed..then add in the Manhattan premium.

I usually tell clients between $10k-$15k low to mid range reno...$20k or so for higher end. Then you got those that will spend $30k on a bathroom reno, but at some point you get a diminishing return back from resale

A prewar bathroom will typically cost my clients 25-30k for a very nice bathroom. It will probably will cost you around 10k-15k in purchases (tub, tiles, vanity, tub enclosure, etc)

There will be people that will say you can do it for less and you can, but your finishes will be more of the low end type

i would stick to what primer05 says as he is in that business and up my range a bit too...15k-20k mid range...20k-25k for higher end.

25k for a bathroom, woohoo - go price out a tub tile vanity etc, then get some labor quotes, see if you get to 25-30k which is the same order of magnitude as 50k

$5k for small kitchen.
$5k for small bathroom.
This was around 2005-2006.
Money well spent.

$5k for a kitchen? That must be a REALLY REALLY small kitchen.

I just paid 30kish for a new kitchen, including lots of bells and whistles. I did a lovely bath for about 10k, but that as 10 years ago.

These post are always funny. The poster says he wants to gut an entire bathroom, with "tumbled marble basketweave floors." And people post back $2-3K all in for materials? Even for a small bathroom, these floor tiles alone are going to be $12-15 each, or $6-700 just for 45-50 sq ft of floor tile. Then add in the +/- 175 sq feet of tile for the shower, maybe twice that if you are tiling some or all of the walls, and I guess everything else is free (or, perhaps, negative cost).

I did a fairly high-end renovation on a large-ish bathroom for about 14K including labor and materials. The building did not require permits, which helped.
