Discussion about
Preferences on Macy's vs Bloomies vs Sleepy's or others?
I used bloomies recently and got a shiftman mattress which i'm pretty happy with.
just wait for the sales.
Sleepys i find no matter what price I pay, I am left wondering if I could have done better as its basically the model where they will try to get you to pay the most you are willing to pay for something as opposed to everybody pays the same price.
Thanks Snuffles
Bloomies. Work with Howard if he is available. Knowledgeable
Bloomingdales and go with Schiff
Lots of presidents go shiffman

Macy's always has a spectacular loss-leader during their holiday sales. If you're wedded to a particular brand or mattress it will not be for you. But if your requirements are just a great mattress at an amazing price you can do very well. It pays to go on-line before the holiday sale as it usually sells out in a couple of days.
Sleepy's has huge discounts at the end of every quarter and you can bargin with them. You can save 2k on top of line models. I'm not sure you can bargin with Bloomies nor would I buy a mattress from them since they are a rip off.....even with the insider sales that EVERYONE gets.
Selection is important too
Sleepy's, you can bargain with them. Bob's Furniture have great mattresses-at-great prices.
Everything's 50% off!
I went to Sleepy's tested out which mattress I want. Found cheaper price online and had Sleepy price matched it.
Not a big fan of Sleepy's. The haggling is worse than any used car lot and we walked away with a lemon. Planning to go to Bloomies or Macy's next time.
the problem with sleepy's is you have to have the stomach for their sales techniques. i think, honestly, because i am a woman they thought they (although it was only two salespeople, one on each of two occasions) could get away with such shit.
i had the same issue with a car dealership in manhattan. i went in to look, they called to follow up and asked for Mr. ___. He was nowhere near the showroom when I went, he doesn't have the same last name as I do, and my first name is awful but definitely not male.
hoodia, selection is only important if they don't have something you want. if they do, you're golden.
very funny, bramstar, although I was comparing them to a new car showroom, but it's an awful one.
>he doesn't have the same last name as I do, and my first name is awful but definitely not male.
This must be the aroma in Tacoma talking again. Whew. And what's your point of view on all this Long Island City talk?
if you aren't in a rush, the key is to wait for the bloomies sale. No need to pay full price unless you desperate for one.
Wherever you buy, buy a latex mattress. You will be happy
I shopped around, fell in love with a rather pricey high-end Sealy latex at Sleepys and then found it much cheaper here: http://www.themattressexpert.com/ Philly internet dealer will ship free to NYC and the delivery guys did a great job.
Concetta?
If you love a very firm mattress you will love Shiffmann. The best selection and prices are at Stickley. Good luck!

I second this.
Just bought a shiffman mattress from Bloomingdales. Love the mattress -- firm and so comfortable. And the delivery service from Bloomingdales was amazing -- on time, fast, highly efficient, set it up perfectly and took all the boxes/old mattress out. Even put down a runner at the entrance with the
bloomingdales logo so there was no damage coming in the front door. I'm sure it cost more with Bloomingdales but the flawless service was worth it for me.
Check out Keetsa too, keetsa.com. Its a California-based company, they have a little shop here in Soho. Nice quality mattresses, eco-friendly, and no gimmicks on the pricing, delivery, etc -- in fact you can take your mattress home at the time of purchase, in this ingenious rolling box -- the king size even fits into a taxi! The staff / service was helpful too.
Ditto on Schiffman and Bloomingdale's!!
Great experience and Cynthia was an amazing salesperson.
Check out Essentia mattresses (@ myessentia.com) if you're looking for a green alternative to memory foam/Tempurpedic.
Got the mailer for the Macy's Labor Day mattress sale.
I bought a mattress from Sleepy's about three years ago. I think I paid the sticker price for the mattress but they "threw-in" two pillows (which "retailed" for about $75/each and didn't charge me a delivery fee. I think I paid about $1500 for the mattress. No idea whether it was a good deal or not but I have been very happy with the mattress. When I first had the new mattress delivered, it was amazing - I had no idea my prior mattress was so worn out. It was about 15 years old and (when i bought it) was a pretty good one but it was clearly past its prime as the new mattress was so much more comfortable.
More power to you if you can throw money away like that. Bravo
Oops wrong spot
My favorite mattress source was a mattress factory (Sleepcare) in Freeport, LI ... first discovered in a search for something custom-sized for an antique bed. Sadly, in the recent RE bubble-burst they went belly-up after generations. A hotel-quality traditional flippable mattress (think Westin) was $550 or so five years ago. If anyone knows of a similar place, please let us know.
Two pieces of advice:
1. Avoid any "mattress top" or similar nonsense. You can add that separately, and change it as wanted. Coil mattresses should be rotated and flipped for best comfort and longest life.
2. Ignore claims of coil count. The more coils, the thinner the wire they're made of. Otherwise, the mattress would weigh tons and nobody would be able to move it.
My Plan A when I need a new mattress will be Walmart. Seriously. Some of their stuff online looks like great value, and they deliver, sometimes for free. And they're better employers than Amazon. Walton-backed anti-Amazon campaigns say so.
>1. Avoid any "mattress top"
Pillow top?

Showing your age.

Yep. Particularly the "pillow tops" - they are often made of inferior materials and are designed to break down quickly so. Since they're part of the entire mattress, the scheme is that it'll force you to buy a new mattress much sooner than you'd ordinarily have to.
Showing, I thought is was common knowledge that alanfart is 80.
