Typical electricity bill - lofts with central ac

Sounds high. What is it in kwh?

leaving out the the thermostat setting seems like a pretty enormous variable to overlook.

A 5 ton AC unit should be plenty for 3000 sq ft. They probably suck around 5kw, so at 300 hours per month with a 100% duty cycle, 1500 kwh. Don't know ConEd rates these days, but if 10-20 cents per kwh, works out to $5-10 per 100 sq ft.

I'm about to get an air conditioner installed, and the brand I'm getting (nothing special) estimates that it'll consume *up to* 2.6 kilowatts when lowering air temperature of a room that's about 20 m^2 (200 ft^2) by about 10°C (18°F). Less if your room is well-insulated. In this high-priced municipality, electricity costs about 34¢ per kW·h, so nobody would use it 10 hours a day!

Friends who had a big loft with old, HVAC-inadequate wiring many years ago found a much more cost-effective solution for dealing with hot summer nights: prescription sleeping pills.

Thanks nada. Do not believe it is more than 5kw as the breaker is only 60 amps. Out of 20 per 100 sq ft, think 6-7 is due to other appliances and lighting. Need to check if coned is using some type of estimates and trying up periodically.

Solved the mystery. The cost is ~25c/kwh, In addition, they do true of meter reading every couple of months. So average is $12-$15 per 100 sq ft.
