Discussion about
Does anyone know anything about a nuisance case in which the coop's attorneys are trying to evict a tenant? Do you know how long it could take?

lisag326, during what hours does the music and the shouting occur?

What neighborhood is this building in?

What year was it constructed?

If a tenant is creating danger or doing something illegal for which the police would arrest, then 4-6 months. If the tenant is noisy or nosy or unclean or unfriendly or smokes inconvenient, then its impossible - I'm sorry your honor, I've lived in the building a long time, I guess O was stuck in somebad habits, I promise your honor to be more considerate but this is my home a long time and i have nowhere else to go and all these newcomers...

I'm so sorry your honor, lately my hearing aid batteries must be dying, I should probably get it checked next time i see my nurse at the clinic.

Supplicant:

This clinic you go to ... is it in a quiet neighborhood like the Silk Stocking District, or is at a place like, say, for example The Presbyterian Hospital, in a noisy area like Washington Heights, where you pretty much can expect nonstop loud blaring music and perpetual top-volume domestic quarrels?

Best,
Your Honor

it will take years with a rent stabilized tenant. this is especially the case if there were no significant complaints files prior to your purchase.

As well consider the fact that your neighbors may not feel like incurring all the legal expenses involved in evicting someone they likely can't evict anyway. I'd be very surprised if you could convince a board to pay all that money just to pacify one shareholder. You really need to figure out how to soundproof your own place. You're not going to get satisfaction by trying to evict him.

The nuisance case was in effect before I bought the place. There were many complaints way before me..

lisag326, I was wondering: did you buy knowing that this problem existed?

Perhaps you should have posted here on StreetEasy regarding the building(s) you were considering buying in.

of course, alanhart asks politely and thinks that will work after I and columbiacounty failed at trying to sweat it out of her.

hmm...this sounds good to pass on to my sister who might have to try being noisy in order for her stubborn coop board to loosen up a bit...

Yeah, maybe they'll loosen up, maybe they'll serve her with eviction papers...

hope you got a good price for this apartment. you knew of the situation and now you are all over the boards complaining??????

you should've soundproofed prior to moving in. just get it done. if you are a masochist, please ignore my advise.

Can this situation be clarified? Seems that some people know the situation or know the nuissance tenant when they comment.
Evictions are hard as some are pointing out.
