Post-Renovation Cleaning Services - Worth it?

I think it's worth it. Given how much you've probably spent on a renovation, it's nice to know that you will be moving into a truly clean place. Renovation dust settles everywhere, and a trained cleaning service will do more than a traditional maintenance cleaning - i.e. walls, ceilings, mouldings, frames, cabinets, and tons of nooks and crannies you wouldn't even consider. Some even use q-tips to scour out small spaces...

Well worth the expense. Clean home, clean belongings, peace of mind.

I have had several expensive cleaning services post construction, although not in NYC, and I have never felt satisfied. The truth is that the dust takes weeks, even months, to settle and nobody cares that much to do as good a job as you will do yourself. I wish that weren't the case, but sadly, that has been my experience.

I used Alexandra Cleaning and was happy with them. They're priced competitively and have an ongoing Yelp deal.

High-end rental clients often want cleaners who will scrub their units with a toothbrush. In my experience, it's pretty great to be in a space that's been cleaned to that level. Scrubbed baseboards, insides of kitchen cabinets wiped down, crevices of picture frames cleaned -- it's pleasant to be in rooms like that.

Of course much depends on your standards -- and you can probably get your own 1-BR dust-free -- but are you willing to spend eight hours doing it?

The price seems reasonable for your 1-bed. Due to the renovation, dust will be in the space for a while so make sure to get the cleaners back the next day for touch-ups and final final clean. This should all be in the one price.
