Discussion about
Has anyone else noticed that it seems to not be working the way it used to? I can no longer search multiple areas, features, etc at once. Very annoying...

I noticed the same thing. I know that they outsourced their website about 2 months ago and I guess this is the result. They fired all of their internal people managing the site. I have to imagine this is going to effect their business. I wish they would just restore it to where it was before.

its working for me, except the data is congested with open listings and spam. That makes it very annoying.

Agreed. Scrolling down search listings and there is a speed bump of 12 new dev condos in the west 50's or Harlem all listed separately all in the same building with the same computer generated rendering of your "dream home."

Yes, I had the same problem last night. Search parameters are now irrelevant, and there is a note at the bottom that states that results include "any" of the parameters - which means all listings including those that have nothing to do with what you're looking for. In my opinion, the NY Times search engine is now completely useless.

Noticed the same problem with NYT. They have the "multiple listing" site for NYC, they are messing up a good thing

Thanks everyone for confirming that I'm not totally insane...Amity95 is seeing what I'm seeing.

The NYT search engine is totally useless now. I would like to rely on the streeteasy search but it has a BIG lag time, and it is much slower to load, and doesn't include the FSBO.

julia- yes, it has the same listings not including fsbo and some random brokers.

As for NYT, I,ve noticed my search parameters slipping i.e. 2= bedrooms suddenly brings up 1 bed apt.

Ever since I discovered StreetEasy, I can't even bear to run a simple search on NY Times, and I used run searches on them at least once a week. I understand what they were trying to do with the Map View, but it is a total mess. In this age, it seems ridiculous to have such a poorly designed search engine (although I'm a programmer, so I'm picky with user interfaces).
There's a tiny part of me that wonders if they keep the searches bad on purpose. They're getting paid by the listers, not the potential buyers. The worse the search is, the more properties someone has to click on to find what they actually want. Those click statistics help their listings sales. It's a terrible business model though, and I think it will hurt them in the long run as more people discover and create sites like this.

The NYT search engine is painfully slow and cumbersome. Streeteasy still has the best search technology among local real estate sites, but is missing many listings that are on the NYT.

Given that there's no MLS, if one were to piece together a group of websites to get an exhaustive survey of available properties, besides the NYT and Streeteasy, what else would you include? Criagslist is no easier.

The Real Estate Board of New York is trying to address this problem with the move to a Manhattan MLS, but right now it is very frustrating. I work for a smaller broker and we use On-Line Residential, but frankly the brokers' interface for OLR is stronger than the public interface.

So I would say NY Times, then streeteasy, then just do the brokerage websites in order of size -- my guess is Corcoran, Elliman, Halstead are probably the three biggest. I try to push my listings to the nytimes.com so that people not going directly to my firm 's website can see them, but they are on OLR too, so if you are working with a buyer's broker have them sweep OLR regularly.

front-porch (or anyone else who knows), how does the public interface with On-Line Residential? The NY Times search engine is no longer functional, so I don't know why anybody - whether broker or FSBO - would even waste their time listing on it. Frankly, if a listing or an address could not be tracked or checked on Streeteasy I would not bid on it as I would assume that the broker is hiding something or trying to do something unethical and thus would consider it to be a red flag....
