Discussion about
Luxury rental ($5 per sq ft per month), non- designer, wood veneer, ceaserstone / granite stone top, no plumbing changes, need to withstand rental wear and tear, existing appliances. 3x7 island, no sink. 7 foot wall of cabinets. Would love suggestions on places and appx cost. Ideally under 15k including installation. Looked at ikea but is it durable? Thanks.

Arby,
1. What do you use for your high-end rentals?
2. How much does it cost?

Thanks.

300 Mercer,

I feel like I am becoming an IKEA salesperson. I am happy to fabricate and install custom cabinets as i do make more money then when cabinets are purchased elsewhere, however, I highly recommend Ikea. I cannot speak of their furniture but the kitchen cabinets in my opinion is a no brainer. We have been installing them for years and have not had a single call back. What some do not know is you are able to use iKEA cabinets and cut them to size making them somewhat custom

Here are some Ikea kitchens we have recently done (scroll down to view all the Ikea kitchens)

Ikea or Try to work directly a kitchen cabinet company.
$15K is tide but enough for what you looking for if you are not crazy about specific veneer finish.

does mark have a website?

.. and is $15k include all labor and costs? i have exact same question, low/mid-tier finishes (cheap, but clean and sturdy for years ahead) including knocking 1 8*10 wall down to open kitchen up and replace with kitchen island..

Just be careful that the footprint for the IKEA cabinets is right for your kitchen layout. I havea friend who should have gone with custom cabinets due to the odd shape of her kitchen. She went with IKEA stock cabinets and had to pay for a lot of extra carpentry work to get the look she wanted.

I have relatives in Sweden who tell me IKEA works there because you take your kitchen cabinets with you when you move. The "modules" are designed for a typical apartment layout. By the way, they say we're not getting the same quality here as they get in Stockholm. Since our import duties are so high, they can't set attractive prices unless they send the lesser quality goods or break them down and use Canada as an intermediary.

The footprint? If that was the case almost all kitchens in Manhattan would need custom kitchens. I am sure Ikea works in Sweden but it also works great here. In most cases we do not care what the layout is because we customize the ikea cabinets ( very important to know this is when the doors are flat panel). We are able to cut them to make them shorter or to make them more shallow if necessary. I cannot say enough about IKEA. I say this while we make custom cabinets as well and make a lot more money with custom

Primer: The price of my friend's IKEA kitchen + the cost of the customizing them now = cost of custom kitchen cabinets.

Jelj13,

Perhaps they hired a very expensive contractor. It shouldn't cost more to assemble and install IKEA bUt it shouldn't come close to custom.

Primer,

Would you say you have had the same experience with their (Ikea) bathroom vanities/cabinets?

Well in Sweden as it is in most European countries, there is no requirement to declare and mark country of origin on merchandise like in the USA.
So what often happens is they manufacture in China, and pawn it off as Made in (insert european country name here) quite frequently.
