Discussion about
Can anyone recommend a seamstress or someone who will make custom window treatments. I don't want to go through the commercial places like janovic because the translation is just too hard with the staff (thy can only do very simple). Thanks

I needed custom window treatments for several windows for several reasons including the size of the windows and also because the sun comes in so strongly, I needed several layers of window treatments on each window including a light filtering blinds, a black out shade behind the light filtering components and a decorative valence/trim on the upper and side borders of each window (sorry I don't know the technical terms). I spent several months on this project. Went all over Manhattan, but ended up using a small company in Long Island called Long Island Window Treatments in Syosset. I worked directly with the owner Joe and his installer. They were very helpful, made several trips to my apartment and also do many projects in Manhattan. What I found is that if you require detailed customer service, I did better in the suburbs than here, even at the D&D building. If your request is simplier than mine, I would try the D&D building. I don't remember which ones I went to, but there are some window treatment places there.

Hello,

I would recommend Manhattan Shade and Glass. I'm an interior designer in nyc and I use them all the time. They are very knowledgeable and have great customer service. Ask for Merrill.

Never make bulky decorations on your windows. They collect lot of dust.Use for final decor featherless material. One, that you will able to wash more often, wich will dry on your window in 5 minutes.

Why not cover your windows permanently with bricks?

Try The Ruffled Window (ask for Robin) or The Shade Store
