Discussion about
I am considering renovating a kitchen in a small 1-bedroom apartment in a brownstone. I am wondering what people think about 2-burner cooktop and a small wall oven as opposed to 20" stove. I'm conflicted because I tried this once. People saw the apartment and didn't like the fact that there was no stove (mostly women). I ended up putting a stove back in, which is hardly ever used. Then in my own place, I have a 2-burner cooktop and a wall oven and when people see it, they're like "oh wow!" See the dilemma thoughts. Constructive comments, criticism welcome
I like the idea. I also like the idea of having a smaller, streamlined fridge or fridge drawers.
i wish i had space for under-the-counter fridge, but that would take up too much valuable floorspace.
Stoves are crucial to your prosperity and symbolize wealth if your into the feng shui thing.
Even if no one is using them, many have read enough about feng shui that they want the burners there.
(Maybe if you switch yours to a 4 burner you'll rent out the no burner apt easier ;) )
The two-burner cooktop is a good idea. I've been thinking of that, but over a 24" under-counter wall oven. If the next owners wanted more, it'd be easy enough to just cut a bigger hole in the counter and make it four burners. Or get the kind with covers, so the spoon-rest, etc., could go on the cover of the two unused burners.
I need more drawers, so would ideally gain two 12" banks of drawers by going to 24" refrigerator, 18" dishwasher, and 24" oven, down from the current 36"/24"/30".
Since I don't cook, I like the NWT suggestion. It's found in most of the smaller European apartment kitchens.
Except in Italy, where the kitchen is king.
Italians take their kitchen with them when they move: appliances, cabinets, sinks, the whole set-up.
Bertazzoni makes a gorgeous 24" oven that does regular roasting, convection, broiling, and microwave. Comes in stainless and also a stunning white glass front. The only thing you can't make in it is a Thanksgiving turkey. An oven like that and a good looking (Wolf or Gaggenau or Miele) 2-burner cooktop should make any home cook swoon, no matter their skill. Add a drawer dishwasher, a 24" Liebherr, and a mini wine cooler and it would be a perfect mini-me kitchen.
