Discussion about
We are planning to change our hardwood floors (approximately 2000 ft). We received an installation quote of $10/ft which we think is crazy expensive. Can someone give us an idea of what is the average hardwood installation cost in Brooklyn. 6" wide white oak Sand and Pol on site 2 coats of dark stain Thank you in advance.

Is that just for the installation or does it include the new floors? If all in, not crazy at all. Obviously get 2 more quotes

Why would you think it should be cheaper?

Not crazy, but you might ask on brownstoner about prevailing Brooklyn rates. 2 coats of stain and 3 coats of poly alone would be $3-4 /ft.

I'm always amazed at how cheap some people in NYC are. Most of the time, it's not that hardwood floors/built-ins/nannies/fill-in-the-blank are "crazy expensive", it's simply that YOU are trying to buy something you just cannot afford in the first place.

Argo,

Who is supplying the wood? $3.50.00 for 6" select. Who is installing the new base molding? How much do you think it should cost? I think $10.00 is more then fair.

I'm sure Argo is one of those types who also thinks nannies should cost no more than $5.00/hour, built-in bookcases should cost no more than what you get at Gothic Cabinet Craft, and gasoline should be no more than $1.00/gallon.

But alas, we live in the real world.

Buy what you can afford. Everything else, stop whining about how "crazy expensive" it is.

Matt, what the heck does the price of hardwood flooring have to do with nannies? And did you hear the OP complain about gasoline prices?
If you can't be helpful, find another thread and bother people like Jason the Retard or C0lumbia C0unty.

I was making a point, huntersburg. I realize abstract concepts are difficult for you, but try. At least try.

The price of gasoline is an abstract concept?
Do you even have a nanny?

One doesn't need to have a nanny to know they cost more than $5.00/hour.

I don't have a Rolls Royce and I know they cost more than $5.00. Now what happens?

NYCMatt, you had made 5 comments, none of them answered my question. Totally useless.
jms8 and others, thank you for your comments. We supply the wood; the $10 quote is for the installation, sand, pol and stain.
Thank you

If you are supplying the wood and there is a subfloor already then 10.00 to install is high. I would expect to install sand, stain and poly your cost should be around 7-8 sq ft

"NYCMatt, you had made 5 comments, none of them answered my question. Totally useless."

Try a little reading comprehension.

If you think $10K is "crazy expensive", you are way out of your league. Rethink your project.

There. I just saved you a ton of time.

You're welcome.
