Discussion about
Curious about people's experiences with different closet companies like California Closet, Creative Closet, and others. Specifically looking for help with 3 walk-ins and couple of smaller linen-sized closets. Can anyone weigh in on materials used, cost, quality of design service, level of service overall, timeliness... Thanks.
I used Creative Closet. Pretty much all of them have the same materials - you choose which type and there are ranges. So I do think it is somewhat of a commodity product and as long as they have a capable closet designer you are fine. I was happy with the designer's ideas and we did a few rounds. They were professional and everything worked out as planned and they provided a lifetime warranty I believe as well. Creative Closet also has much fairer pricing than California Closet. They work in NYC a lot so are used to all the requirements.
With California Closet - they were the most expensive and you are paying for their brand (and helping them maintain their advertising costs i guess to keep that up).
Hi girlygirl77
do you know if these guys also put murphy beds / wall beds in closets? or is that some other company?
thx,
I use Container Store for my rentals....cheaper,simpler from a process point of view than others. Design talent varies but I love the installation company. FOr my own place, used California Closets but would never use them again; agree with girlygirly. If I redid my closets I would likely get a design for Container Store but have a carpenter use real wood to install.
I do not think that they do murphy beds but you can check. You may be talking about a different company.
I used Transform. Not all companies are the same. After I did two reach in closets and a small walk in, I had them do a beautiful WOOD entertainment cabinet/ desk combo. Spent more than I expected, but am happy with the result. Had two service calls (one for the walk in and the other for the wood unit) but they were prompt and curtious. The designer, Leah, was also very patient. We met a number of times to work on the cabinet. I also had to pick out equipment that had to be incorporated into the design, so it took quite a while to get the design PERFECT.
Willie, no idea if they do murphy beds, definitely worth giving them a call.
i used a guy who used to work for a big company and now does his own thing. Less expensive than the big companies, reliable. Nothing too fancy , he comes and measures and designs with you for free, & it is a custom closet which uses all the space. I found container store, if you don't fit their measurements you have unused space.arthur yautakas [closetscrafters@hotmail.com]
Hey Kyle,
I used this company called EZclosets.com they are great! You put in the dimensions of your closet, design it online then pick the materials/colors etc and then it prices it out for you right there. I used this for about 56 closets in a hotel and they were right onpoint. Give it a shot. its fun too.
When I was looking the issue with EZclosets is you have to build it yourself - they ship you the materials. So it should be the cheapest, but I also dont have time or patience to build any closets myself. OF course you can get your contractor to install it for you. Gut if you can get a company focused on just closets to design and install for a price which is close to that, I prefer that.
I talked to a few, including transform (but that one was definitely more expensive though not as much as california as it is a newer firm) before I went with creative closet. The main thing with them is that it is a smaller company, which keeps costs down but you have to sometimes leave a message or send emails. My designer responded at all hours though with any changes and it went smoothly. And you can use wood or whatever materials for all these companies - all depends on price you want to pay.
There's another company more or less like Transform called 'Clos-ette' I think - anyone worked with them in the past?
Also, there's supposed to be a very, very high-end company called Poliform.
There are a bunch of companies like transform b/c they spun out of one of them. I can't remember all their names - hard to keep track. You can also read apartmenttherapy.com for more discussions.
Poliform i believe is european/italian and prices like italian kitchen cabinets or poggenpohl might (i.e. way up there).
not to go off-topic, but if anyone has any advice about custom bookshelves, please do advise.
Let's start a thread on that--I'm interested too and I'm afraid paul's question will get lost here.
Paul and Kylewest... you guys have to be kidding! You must be spending too much time on this website and not looked at any of these closet companies' websites. Bookshelves, radiator covers, pantries, even garages, you want custom, they'll build it for you. Just show them the money! Keep in mind they have a minimum, so unless you have a large space, you might be better off with a carpenter. But these custom closet companies do an amazing job. Everyone that I know that has used one company or another has been happy - including me!
The quality of materials at the closet companies and prefab-type assembly is not what I'm looking for in custom bookshelves and woodwork that is going to be in the middle of my livingroom. Was hoping someone could suggest something more along the lines of carpenter-type businesses they had good experiences with.
