Discussion about
Looking for an architect that will be able to tell me whether a wall is load bearing for a reasonable price. The sheetrock has already been removed. I don't think this will take a lot of time. Also, this is in a 25 foot wide brownstone. It is my understanding that in these kinds of buildings the interior walls are not load bearing. The beams just run across. Am I correct / wasting my time with an architect here? In addition, I am considering a much larger project that involves extending my brownstone and would also like to discuss whether this is possible and the costs with an architect. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
I would recommend Frank Gehry. Good work at very reasonable prices. I also understand things are slow there now.

From the way things are developing with the Eisenhower Memorial I can't rely on him to get this done quickly.

Email me at primerenovations@mac.com I will give you a great architect
There should be load bearing wall in the middle, most likely your wood joists won't span 25 feet. 2x12 wood joist can span 12 to 18 feet depends on the species, most wood joists I have seen in the city are less than 12" deep.
Post the same question on www.brownstoner.com.
