Hi, How much would it cost to install new city windows (materials + labor)? It is for a one-bedroom apartment in a 300+ unit co-op building. The living room has a two-frame window (4.5x7) and a standard sized glass door (3x7), and the bedroom has one wide three-frame window (4.5x10.5 total?). They all have metal frames. The super told me they are doing a bulk window replacement deal for the whole building and I get a 20% discount if I decide to do it through them. But he gave me a ballpark estimate of 10k before discount. Does that seem high? Thanks!
YES! Windows should cost $50 to $75 each with $12 for installation so the whole thing should be around $100 max per window. If the super says it will cost $10,000 then he is quoting you 100x the price.
does the cat provides sufficient emotional support? you come across as fragile guy.
probably one of those hairless cats.
feelhong - we're doing the exact same thing with our apartment (Upper West Side West 70's) - and are being quoted around the same. it's worth it to us for quieter rooms when the windows are closed. feeling is he is in the right ball-park - from what we've heard on these kind of windows.
the cat can install windows. Maybe ask a window company how much it costs instead of the brokers out here.
Direct route is surely to go to a window specialist for a site meeting and quote?
I asked a window specialist and got a ballpark quote of 5k-7k depending on quality/thickness of glass.
gvcnewyork, we might be in the same building :)
Mine is in that range too from several places (2 std size 3+1/4 double hung windows with picture pane in middle).
Laminated 2 pane IGU, two tone color, low e options.
So far its about 6-7K.
I just wish I could get an idea of sound attenuation improvements. Most companies I've dealt with are really cagey on attenuation specifics. Based on my research these should be in the STC 40-42 range, and I'd estimate my current 20 year old drafty ones are about 27-30. So I hope a 50-60% improvement. I don't think I could get appreciably higher unless I got a custom built with huge air gap.
The quotation process has been universally slow.
