Discussion about
All: I am in the process of buying http://streeteasy.com/nyc/sale/839776-coop-444-east-75th-street-upper-east-side-new-york, and would like to see what I can get done in a tight budget. Here is the wishlist: 1. There is paraquet flooring under the blue carpets, removing the carpets and getting the flooring polished 2. I would like to get all the doors stripped of the paint and polished 3. Open up the kitchen and put in new appliances. Could you please give me an estimate of how much this would run me up? Thanks!!

Congratulations on your purchase!

I recommend Norweigan Wood for refinishing the floors. Please contact them directly for a quote.

Based on the listing photos, it is difficult to discern the proposed scope of work for paint stripping. That being said, I typically work with: http://www.parkslopepaintstrippers.com/ Please contact them directly for a quote.

If you are going to open up the kitchen, oftentimes your coop/condo board will require you to file architectural drawings with the DOB. The first thing you need to do is to contact your management agency to determine whether of not they have such a requirement. If the answer is yes, I would be happy to meet with you on site to review the proposed scope of work and put together a proposal for architectural services.

With regard to appliances, you really need to determine what level of appliance you are looking for. This is a good website for narrowing appliances down based on features & cost: http://www.ajmadison.com/

Best of luck!

Floors: $2500.00
Stripping the paint, if you are on a tight budget i believe this will be too costly (in theory you can do it yourself but it will take a lot of time)
Opening the kitchen: You have water lines on one side and gas on the other. I believe there is not too much of the wall you can open up

Primer05 is spot on with the floor estimate. Get at least 2-3 estimates to round out a base price you are comfortable with, also try and see if the contractor can show you some existing jobs so you can get a feel of their quality of work. Consider calling Carlos Wood Floors by Montani Corp, Carlos along with the GC Luis Montani are a great team to work on the floors and other items you listed. They are licensed and insured and do alot of work in Manhattan. Highly recommend them. You can reach them via email at carloswoodfloors@gmail.com or via phone 646-418-0925.

Good Luck,
Adam

Dear All:

Thanks for the suggestions!!

So here is how it is:
1. Floors will be done, I am budgeting around $2.5k for it. This is consistent with other quotes I have.
2. Could you give an estimate on how much stripping the paint would be?
3. Kitchen: I guess I will have to leave it as it is. If I just change the cabintery, do you have an idea of how much it would cost?

Thanks!

Housebuyer,

It is extremely difficult to price it without looking at it. I would have a couple of contractors come in and give you prices

Is it just the doors? Or e frames too?

What kind of cabinets? Custom made? ikea?
