Discussion about 98 Riverside Drive in Upper West Side
Coats, scarves, thermal undies, sweaters, slippers and blankets--and that's for inside this year at 98. In past years, we had the typical pre-War building's abundant (sometimes over-abundant) heat, but this whole winter has been positively frigid indoors here.
an oldie but a goodie: hot water bottles!
Does it meet these standards?

My building was really hot last year and its freezing this year too. You aren't the only one!
Same here. I was told the super controls the temp. but he doesn't live in the building so not sure if he is setting the temp at min. I just called the mgmt co to complain about being too freaking hot when we don't need the heat and not enough when we need it. It was 64% when we got home two weeks ago when the polar vortex hit. Is barely 70 in the living and 66-68 in the bedroom now.
By the way, do other people who have radiator heating suffer from extreme dryness, including nasal problems? Is there a solution for this? Thanks
Buy a humidifier.
Search streeteasy discussions for brand info.
hofo: you can get a humidifier or you could also try setting a large bowl or bucket of water on top of your radiator. The water will evaporate off and add humidity to the air.
Barely 70 degrees!? It's WINTER, forchrisesakes; put some clothes on! Not everybody has the same 'comfort zone' (a hvac term, I understand) so if you don't control the heat in your unit, it may not be the ideal temperature for you. Humidity increases your heat experience, thus the misery when it's hot & humid. I have bowls of water on my radiators & they need to be replenished regularly. I also have a little electric space heater that I use only in the bathroom when I'm naked & wet. If that doesn't work for you, try moving south.
The "little electric space heater...use only in the bathroom...
Sounds like not a great idea. If you are "naked & wet" wrap yourself in a towel, have slippers to slip your
feet into and walk to your bedroom and finish drying yourself off. Then put on your clothes, a bathrobe or
your P.J.'s.
If your apartment has too much heat: open your window (just a crack) and that should make it comfortable for you.
I say stay comfortable and warm any damn way you want. Seriously, lecturing someone on their after-bath protocol? A space heater in the bath is not dangerous per se and you have no clue what the configuration of her bath is.

She's baaack, trolling on streeteasy for a fight.
Pitiful, really.
Angray...
No idea re the actual numerical temp in the apt, but needing 3 or 4 layers inside is crazy. Potential renters, buy an indoor thermometer!
This is the building where c0lumbiac0unty had the problem with the window in the shower.
"Barely 70 degrees!? It's WINTER, forchrisesakes; put some clothes on!"
THANK YOU.
Everyone wants to run around in their skimpies like we're in Palm Beach all year round. Grow up, buy some sweaters and put on some socks.

Isn't this your goal in life?

NYCMatt: Do you "put some clothes on" before or after you air-dry yourself in your bathroom, in front (or near) your "little electric space heater"?
