I've been getting conflicting advice on the NYC Code requirement for GFCI electrical outlet placement along kitchen counters. Apparently, there is a national code provision that requires that no spot along a kitchen counter can be more than 24" from an electrical receptacle. The idea is that most kitchen appliance electrical cords are only 24 inches long and they don't want you to use an extension cord. The conflicting advice is that this is not required in NYC. In my case, I have a 48" counter between the sink and the wall - and I want to put the receptacle at about 12 inches from the wall, making it 36 inches away from the sink. If the code requirement exists in NYC, I would be required to place the receptacle at 24" (the midpoint of my 48 inch counter). Does anyone know (for certain) what the rule in NYC is? Many thanks. You cannot have an outlet more than 24" from the sink. If you want to put one outlet at 12" off the wall you can just add an additional outlet closer to the sink
Or, just plug it into the electrical outlet in the bathroom, where drdr air-dries herself ("wet and naked")
near her "small space heater".
