Hello, Having some problems with the water in my apartment. The building is a pretty old, large, 6-story rental building in Queens that is hardly even kept up by the owner/manager (Pistilli). While many things are wrong/dirty/not working with the building, the most important thing to me now is the water pressure and temperature in my bathroom (sink and shower) and kitchen. In the sinks, whenever I turn on either tap (hot or cold), just a lot of air comes out, with few spurts of water with incredible force (enough to break a glass if I try to wash it). Doesn't really matter how long I leave them open -- it just keeps spurting (mostly with gurgling sounds and nothing but air coming out). In the shower, the water is basically just a dribble, and is either scalding hot or freezing cold, regardless of how much I adjust the taps. It is has been this way for years, and I'm finally fed up. I am aware of certain Warranty of Habitability issues, such as the water temperature needing to be between particular temperatures. But this isn't about temperature (which I think is within legal limits) -- it's about the *functioning* of the water. I can hardly wash anything (including myself!) properly. I have tried writing letters, but there has been absolutely no response. I feel like my next step needs to be something law-based. What is my next step? ANYhelp is MUCH appreciated. [less]
Sounds like there's a problem with the water service to the building.
Calling 311 would be your first step.
File a service complaint with the NYC-DHCR. If the problem is not corrected timely, the DHCR will issue a rent reduction order which will effectively freeze your rent until the service is properly restored. You do not need a lawyer to do this. Just visit the NYS-DHCR website and fill out the appropriate form.
You say that this situation has existed for years. After you call 311, don't call a lawyer, CALL A PSYCHIATRIST.
I've said some mean things about MYCMatt: I guess he said things that were true but that I didn't want to hear. The more I read, the more intelligent and truly knowledgeable I find him to be. He has a competent answer for any type of question. He is a true asset to this site. Sorry, Matt, for my ignorance.
Riccardo: **hug**
please send me an e-mail: info@pistilli.com - i'd like to know what building you are in and I can better help you.
Ricardo -- Matt stated, very clearly and with no wiggle room whatsoever, repeatedly , that the would-be Times Square bomber was planted by the government. Really, he wrote that. What he hasn't done is follow up tantalizing information with any evidence or further explanation.
Matt - why don't you explain , why you think the Times Square bomber was a hoax?
Times Square? In Boston, right?
