Discussion about
Can anyone recommend an agent/broker who has experience handling small studios in the low-range (somewhere around $300,000) in manhattan? I'm looking around midtown west and Manhattan Valley but I also look all over Manhattan. How to find an experienced broker who works with Buyers and knows the market and won't screw me? Thanks for any advice! Guy Who Wants A Studio
sorry I thought this was going into two separate categories, didn't mean to over-post. (new at this)
The problem that you'll find is that most agents who handle "prime" Manhattan (which used to be defined as below 96th street, people may now say it's below 125th street) aren't going to be that familiar with, say, Inwood, but at your price point, the agents won't want you to split the work, either. Still, I might have a referral for you if you want to ping me.

front_porch, I'm not sure what you mean about "split the work"? Let me know how I can ping you and I will. Thanks.
upstairsrealty [at] gmail will find me. ali
Dan Gotlieb at Digs Realty works with buyers at all price points. He gives his clients a rebate at closing (an awesome perk when working with him). You should reach out - dan@digsrealtynyc.com
Look at 80, 90, 100 La Salle St/501 and 549 W 123 St. They have studios, and sometimes one bedrooms in your price range. That's the Morningside cooperative complex of 5 buildings right next to Columbia University. Frank Aguilar ( faguilar@mhhc.coop ) brokers for the building. You can also use Klara Madlin, agency of same name, and Athena Witt from Douglas Elliman also have been selling apartments there. Klara Madlin has handled small apartments in neighboring areas.
FWIW, jelj, I first wanted to talk to the OP to get a sense of what the right area is for him, but Klara Madlin is one of the brokers I had in mind as a possible fit for him./ali
front_porch: Klara Madlin is a smaller brokerage, but they even handle housing for seniors. I looked at the Morningside complex mentioned above, shown by Johnnie Gilbert and Klara Madlin. They have an agent who's lived in the complex for many years, so they were very knowledgeable regarding that property. They also listings of smaller apartments in neighboring areas.
I mentioned the Morningside complex because the apartment are the same layout as 303 West 66th St at considerably less money. The area is becoming better with the expansion of Columbia above W 125 St. We almost moved there, but opted for the UES because most of our friends live there.
I'd keep my eyes open at 515 E 88 St. for studios. 2 just went to contact there for around 300K with the highest maintenance at $675. The allow renting after 1 year of ownership.
Try fernando{@}frankragusa.com great guy to work with and he knows Harlem, if that's what you looking for.
Did you buy a studio yest?
Hi GuyWantsAStudio, I am an expert in that price range. Feel free to email me at jkaufman@citihabitats.com. I would be happy to help you navigate your home-buying!
Hi GuyWantsAStudio. I recently bought the mythical white elephant of apartments, Manhattan under $300k, and I can offer some advice. If you are still in the market?
I'm not a real estate agent and I wont give you bs. If you want to chat repost here and we can find a way to exchange emails or chat via Craigslist.
FYI I'm not implying anything about the agents posting here. I just had some bad experiences during my search. I could write about it and blast the agents here on the internet... but it's not worth the time.

Would love to chat with you cc2015 and I am truly appreciative of your offer. Are there really nice people like you in NYC? I have not found a place yet but haven't given up hope.
cc2015 how would we chat via CL? Thanks.
