We don't have a broker. Some pushy brokers from open houses however send me listings, I tell them I already have them and may go to the open house. The broker then calls the listing agent and puts there name down as my broker while telling them I am coming. ? What is this? Is this binding? I don't want to be tied to someone that I haven't actually hired and have them "working" on my behalf. Also, then what does the other broker think if I say I don;t really know them and am not sure whether we will be working together or not. When this happens, if I decide to make an offer on the house and have not signed any agreements with or talked to the broker, do i still need to use their services through the sale and closing? Is there an etiquette appropriate way to deal with this? I don't want to upset anyone but I have worked with an inexperienced broker before and want to be 100% about anyone I bring on to close a deal for me. [less]
You are creating your own problems.
Don't say anything to the pushy brokers. At all.
I would put 'unrepresented' in the sign-in sheet and the offer.
Unless you signed a buyer's broker agreement you are not bound to any agent and can choose anyone or no one to represent you.
You owe no broker nothing. Etiquette is not the right word; the word you're looking for is honesty. Or perhaps legality. Tell pushy broker if they don't back off you will report them to their manager and/or the Department of State Licensing Services.
Just don't respond to the broker's emails about listings. Then you don't have to tell the pushy broker anything at all let alone at that you'll report him or her. Silence before a problem is so much a better solution here than confrontation after the fact.
fieldchester is correct. I've had experiences with pushy brokers like that. I just ignored them. They eventually go away.
Thanks guys. I really appreciate your advice and admonitions!
No problem. Dealing with jerks, pushy people, shrews, the mentally impaired, hypocrites, and know-it-alls is my specialty.
Know thyself.
Exactly, don't you know it Bhurg!
brokers = - - - - -
Just sign in as no broker and you'll be fine. If any questions come up, you can clarify with the listing agent that you never had a broker and any broker that says so is totally out of place.
