Discussion about
We were rejected by a coop board a while back. I just saw that the property had successfully sold and was purchased by the coop board president. Does this happen often?? I wouldn't be dwelling on it except that the deal took almost 6 months before it fell apart and the coop wold only review our package after we set a date to close and completed a bunch of inspections. The rejection was a total surprise and came after we had spent quite a bit on lead testing, inspections, etc. Am I a crazy person to write the coop board president directly and send him my inspections bills snarkily requesting he pay them?

Might make you feel good short term, but on balance it is of course not really a good idea...

Oh, you party pooper Joe, 2013nyc should clearly send notice after notice with escalating non-payment fines culminating in the false filing of a small claims lawsuit.

What do you mean by false filing of a small claims lawsuit?

There was a case on point on this subject, rather a famous case too [I am not a lawyer, just a hobbyist]. I'd give a good co-op condo lawyer a call just to get reassurance, or you can do what I did that worked great------I wrote to the New York Times real estate Ask Real Estate column with my issue and, wonder of wonders, they got a couple of top lawyers to weigh in on my cute little problem. I smiled for a week at finding out I was right all along, and I'm sure the perps recognized themselves in the paper.

I've heard this happen before, but a relative of someone on the Board bought the apartment without having to pay for all the "due diligence" again. Their package was also processed with lightning speed. Your net on recouping any money would probably be nil after figuring in the cost of a lawyer. Remember, the Board doesn't have to indicate why you were rejected ...
