Does anyone know the latest status of the garbage dump being built down the street at Asphalt Green? Is it going forward as planned?

It's not a dump. The driveway has been re-routed: http://nyti.ms/1I91s96

Hold on. There are PLANS in place to rebuild the driveway. That won't be until AFTER the dump is up and running with the current driveway. To boot, the city has sold the playground and park lands around the nearby housing projects on E. 92nd St. to private developers. The proceeds of the sale will be used for repairs on the housing projects. The city is also going to keep this waste transfer center open 24 hours a day; private carters will use it overnight. This center is going full steam ahead despite being built in a flood zone below the recommend height.

Residents at the Azure have NO reason to worry about the waste transfer station. 1.) The Azure is a good distance from the station and most importantly 2. Study after study has been completed about the possible environmental consequences and all concluded that there was NOTHING to worry about. This all started for a whole lot of nothing. The Azure is a FANTASTIC building with a very well thought-out and designed land lease that helps funding other schools around the city. The developers but a lot into this building and having spent much time there I can confirm its one of the best deals in the city. Please don't worry about the WTS; there is no need to.

I would look long and hard at flood protection before investing anywhere near this. How soon we forget.

There's a handy map showing extent of water and damaged buildings at http://www.nytimes.com/newsgraphics/2012/1120-sandy/survey-of-the-flooding-in-new-york-after-the-hurricane.html

I was down at Canal and Greenwich last night. Thought I'd see commemorative scum marks on buildings, but no. They do want to forget.

The only impact that the WMTS has on the Azure is the increased traffic.

NWT: interesting map of the hurricane damage. The building on the map on the corner of East End Ave. and E. 90th St. has taken a lot of measures to prevent this problem again resulting in a decrease in their flood insurance. The water came through basement windows on E. 90th St. that were at ground level and down the garage and service entrance ramps on E. 90th St. They've bricked in all the affected windows. I saw this morning that they are installing something called Florida Storm Doors on the garage and service entrance . Apparently, those doors provide a water tight seal and are used in other flood areas down south. If that garage and service entrance had been on the E. 89th St. side of the building, they would have had a fraction of the problems form the hurricane.
