I recently purchased a studio in a central location. The building is well-maintained and the apartment is spacious. However, my neighbors are absolutely nuts. When I first moved in, I hired someone to mount my TV but he did a crappy job and two screws came loose. It was 6pm and worried that the TV would fall, I quickly drilled the screws back into place. That took a total of 5 seconds and was no louder than a standard vacuum cleaner. An hour later, I got a call from the front desk that 2 neighbors reported me for making "earthquake-level noise" but I reassured them that I did nothing of the sort. Note to self, use a screwdriver next time. Okay, so these people are noise sensitive and super passive aggressive. For the next 6 months, it was so quiet that I could hear the wind outside. I also rarely saw anyone on my floor, which was kind of creepy. Then, out of the blue, someone got a dog that has been yapping ever since. Three of 4 surrounding units underwent construction almost simultaneously. One of the projects caused exposed hallway wiring and another caused a leak into my bathroom that took multiple attempts to fix. Only one unit sent a notice, something required by house rules. Fortunately, I'm not generally home during the day. However, the one kicker is an ongoing neighbor feud. The guy downstairs is mad at the family upstairs for walking around. His solution? To blast a song with sexually suggestive lyrics on loop for weeks. Those poor confused kids upstairs. It has happened more than once and the latest song has been ongoing for 2 weeks. I'm ready to leave this daily nightmare but is it worth it to look in this market or should I wait until these childish cavemen move out? P.S. In my previous apartment, whenever I came home to packages at the front door, the old lady next door would burst out to ask me if there was a dead body in them, even though they were almost always small boxes labeled Amazon. I kind of miss those days. [less]

What building is this in?
Is this in Middle Village, Queens, or a central location in another Boro?
My building is in Midtown East. It's a large residential building with 200 units.
Do you really have to leave, and will you really do better elsewhere? (Also - transaction costs are hefty around here.)
None of this sounds really all that crazy or unusual, except the blasting music. Your building's board (condo or coop) needs to get that under control asap. You should not have to sell and move to escape it.
I disagree that none of this sounds crazy, but perhaps not so unusual. A few decades ago when I worked 18 hour days, lived alone, and was never home before midnight, the person who lived below me for years put notes under my door, and complained to the doormen, that I (a 20-something male) was blasting music and prancing around in high heels while she was trying to watch tv (i.e., prior to 10 pm, when I was never home). I kept telling the doormen that I was going to put my stereo on a timer playing the incessant sound of footsteps in my absence so she could hear what it sounded like, but I never did so. Oddly, when I did have raucous parties until the wee hours of the morning, she said nothing.
What is the actual issue here? You had a problem once when you fixed the TV mounting. The rest of your complaint seems to have nothing to do with you one way or the other. Did I misread?
Update on this?
@fieldschester You seem really interested in the outcome. I was trying to say that my neighbors are noise sensitive but they themselves make a lot of noise, especially the guy with a grudge playing non-stop music. I try to be considerate of my neighbors so even though the feud has nothing to do with me, I am able to hear the non-stop music. The music continued for another month before several neighbors got together and wrote a letter to the Board. So far, it's been quiet but I wouldn't be surprised if this happened again. This past occurrence was the 3rd time this has happened, that I'm aware of at least. That's why I want to move.
Keep writing notes to the managing agent .
This could be a case where the neighbors break the building's by-laws , and eventually you may go to Landlord Tenant court
keep reporting noise violations to 311
