First time renovator here. My galley kitchen is 12 x 6 1/2 and I want to use every inch. I've designed what I think will work, but what now? How do I find someone to spec it for a semi-custom cabinetmaker or build it with a combo of ready made and custom? I think I've found a contractor, but they want me to supply cabinets info.

How about going to a kitchen designer? They'll know fabricators and may be able to tweak your design to squeeze even more out of it.

I was pointed to Kitchen Solutions up in the Bronx and had a great experience. Downside is that it's a hike to get up there, but the end result was worth it.

Their website has pictures of big kitchens, but they do a lot of work in Manhattan, including very small kitchens. Good luck.

I had a galley kitchen that I just renovated. It was a bit wider than your. I did the design, the contractor tweaked it and made suggestions, and then I set the plans up as a CAD 3D diagram to do a "walk through". The contractor built the cabinet frames and ordered custom fitted doors.
The firm is Matchless Construction. The owner, Pete Jukoff, started off many, many years ago as a carpenter so you know the frames will be done correctly. He has a shop to do the work. You can reach him at (718) 805-2178 OR (917) 319-4691. He will come to your home to get your input and do the measurements.

If you like, you can contact me at yahapaumc@gmail.com and I will send you photos of the work done.

I had the same challenge. My architect worked w/ the cabinet people at Home Depot (23rd St) for custom sized units that would maximize every inch. There's no wasted 'filler' pieces, except one narrow one to handle an out-of-square wall. Very happy with the result.

Thanks for the info. I thought I could work directly with a contractor and have them draw up the plans since I already know what I want. Wish I had your CAD skills, jelj13! Any recommended kitchen designers, or is it better to go to a kitchen design store?

Bronx is a little bit far, flarf. I looked at Broadway Kitchen and Bath and they seem to have a lot of selection and offered design service. Mixed reviews on Yelp. Anybody here have experience with them?

This is not rocket science for a small kitchen. They all have software to select the cabinets and, if you are going with the higher end cabinet companies, the boxes are sized to order so there is no wasted space. I went to Broadway to plan out a kitchen, but it turned into a much larger renovation and was handled by my contractor. I think the issue with many of these places is their install skills, rather than layout skills.
