Discussion about
My building is an old factory which has an elevator shaft (which has been closed off). I'm wondering what are high level ballpark costs (are we talking 500k or 5mm) to install an elevator in an existing shaft in a 4 story building? Who are the best people to reach out to for more information? I also heard that our internal stairs may have to be brought up to code if we installed the elevator (they have been grandfathered in).
Very wide range is 100-250k not counting the stairs. Cost is high due to union labor. You need to hire an elevator consultant first.
I do not think $250K is close to doable. We have bids right now to refurbish the mechanicals and cab in our existing, 30 year old 6 floor elevator that are in the $125k range. A friend in a Soho loft converted their manual elevator to a modern automatic elevator +/- 8 years ago. My recollection is that back then it was in the $750K range for 6 floor building. This was no small task. All of the doors on each floor had to be replaced, electric updated, buttons added, cranes brought in to get old motor off roof and new mechanicals brought in, etc.
Call Schindler. 4 story is not as expensive.
Great, thank you all for your comments, I'll let you know what I hear.
Try this as well and please do let us know what estimates you get. I am interested in knowing this for a townhouse.

I spoke with Schindler and they were quoting around ~100k for a 5 stop elevator. I will be reaching out to a few more companies as I may require a side door.
Union labor is quality labor. I'm not sure why unions are under attack by 300mercer.
Steve, Does it include installation and cab? Will they install for you or do need a separate contractor? Good luck. Thanks.
