Discussion about
Has anyone renovated their coop unit in Manhattan using a ductless air conditioning system (as opposed to a central air conditioning system)? I've heard that one advantage is that a ductless system will not require an architect or the ducts throughout the apartment, which is an advantage. Any thoughts on this issue? Also, what companies would you recommend to install such a system?
Hi MLW. That is correct for a ductless system you would not require 'ducts' throughout the apartment but regardless, you would need to consult your management company to see what requirements they have as installing a ductless system in a coop is not easy. All ductless systems i've installed need exterior equipment to drain and provide air to the ductless units and this isn't normally allowed by coop buildings. The most common HVAC options for coops are either central air, through the wall units (again if allowed by management), or regular window units. Good luck!
