Discussion about
Does anyone have an estimate for the cost to install a new dishwasher. This co-op unit doesn't currently have one so it would involve removing a cabinet, electric work, and a plumber. The electrical panels for the building were recently upgraded but I think a dedicated circuit will still need to be installed.
No, but I'm in the process of doing this as part of a larger renovation now, I could perhaps try to provide an update with an estimated broken-out cost later on.
If it's *just* a dishwasher you want, it's probably pretty prohibitive - you're going to need a plumber, electrician, some waterproofing ,shut-off valve, alteration agreement, application fee, all that stuff, it could easily be $5 or $10k all up, probably far more practical as part of a larger project.
Not sure where you are in the co-op purchase process but make absolutely sure the co-op will allow you to install a dishwasher. Keep in mind also wet-over-dry requirements, which would limit the area where it could be installed.
verados, Talk to your super. A lot will depend on whether electrical connection and plumbing is close to the dishwasher already. Alteration arrangement is probably not needed. If you ask the managing agent, he will likely say yes. A tip to super will get you most of the answers.
Bryantpark, out of curiosity, how much work are you doing and how much do you anticipate it will cost/how long will it take?
UES_Ida: doing a little bit of everything (bathroom, floors, closets, kitchen) on an alcove studio in midtown east. All up, maybe $60-90k or so, ballpark.
Mail me if patricklewis70@gmail.com if you're at all interested in more details (plans, contractors, etc). I'm in the late planning / finding contractors stage, all a bit daunting at the moment and really keen to network.
Thanks, Bryantpark!
