Discussion about
Hello, I am a resident and soon to be fellow who has matched to a program at NYU. I will be working at Bellevue and Tisch for the next couple of years. I am starting to look into housing and wanted to see if you had any advice. I'm a single female who is not interested in getting a roommate. I'd ideally like a 1 bedroom with a budget up to $3800/month (I live in a cheap area of the country now, so I've got some savings to supplement what I will make as a fellow). Should I be looking only in the Kips Bay/Murray Hill area around NYU or should I expand further away. The max I would want to commute is 30 minutes door to door. Thanks!

I would say murray hill (more so than kips bay) is a good, solid neighborhood (especially along 3rd ave rather than second). You should be able to get something there given your budget, so no point looking further afield.

I would consider a little lower east as well. More to do in that area. Peter cooper village/Gramercy closer to Lex/Park or further down in east village or closer to Madison square park.

Why commute at all, try to stay within a 10 block radius so you can walk back and forth to work. Healthier and you save commuting time and money. You would be better off commuting to you're entertainment, which I'm sure you will be doing exploring the other neighborhoods throughout the city.

i know another NYU resident who lived here. Very convenient for work and overall pretty decent building. Given the hours he greatly valued the convenience factor.

Look up Truffles Tribeca. It is in your budget. Love this building!

Peter Cooper Village. Huge 1 BRs for that price.

I have had friends who worked at NYU Langone when they went through training. The hospital helped them find housing in the area as they own some buildings and lease others.

PCV may be good for you esp. if you get one where the bathrooms are fixed up, toilet seats and all.
