Renting with poor credit

Hi guys - wanting your input here, please. I moved to NYC two years ago after fleeing from a very abusive marriage, and I have been subletting from someone since then. I am ready to move on with my life and move in with my boyfriend in Queens, but through his financial manipulation and my inability to pay back the debt that was taken out in my name, my credit has tanked. Is there anything I can do to get an apartment with the guy I want to move in with? He has good credit, flawless rental history. I have flawless rental history as well.
