Discussion about
I had my bathroom gut renovated. Beautiful job, but now the new wall squeaks when you step on the floor close to the wall. Then when you step away from the wall it squeaks again. The wall didn't squeak before I paid for the renovation. What steps should I take with the contractor?

Call your contractor and tell him about your issue. They should come out and see what the problem is and then fix it

Thanks Primer. Have you ever heard of such an issue? My father performed contractor work his entire life and never heard of such a problem.

Sounds like someone cheaped out on the subflooring.

I have not heard of that. Maybe they did not frame correctly. If you push on the wall does it move at all?

They seem to think there is something wrong with the frame and the tub, and have offered to either 1) open the wall from the kitchen to fix the frame. To do this they will have to remove all my kitchen cabinets, or 2) accept a reduction in price through not making final payment of 10% of contract value. I think I should get it fixed. Thoughts?

The squeak isn't going away, and it is not going to get cheaper to fix. Nor will it get less annoying. Fix it

nyc_sport - my type of advice, except first he should have asked what neighborhood you are in.

the wall does not move if I push on it - diagnosis seems to be the tub frame.
